I'm thinking about getting one as a "Last big purchase before my kid is born" gift to myself, and was looking for opinions on it.

So, please give testimonials, pro or con...

i havent played one, but they look cool. i think you should get one.

that way when you gotta watch the kid all night while the mom gets her zzz's, you got something to do

i love mine.

grand theft auto liberty city kept me entertained for a month.

SOCOM is good too.

You can surf the internet..sorta...

I've yet to be able to steal a proper wireless signal that lets me play online games...but that sounds like a legit option.

I just like to play it when I'm in a car on the way to the mountain..or on the plane..or the bus...OR ...on the can at work = best place to hide and play ever.

I won't use it for music....but its great for movies, and they're releasing tons of them.

i had a nintendo ds but that things controlers are made for kids and I have bear paws for hands.

GET IT GET IT GET IT.

best part is they're in the process of making some hookups so that the games can be broadcast to your TV.

worst part: its not a PS 3

They are cool. Make them turn it on in the store before buying it though, many have screen issues.

That's what I was thinking as well, because most of the games are just shells of their PS2 version, and I have one of those, and a DVD player.

It's either that or I was thinking of getting and Ipod or other mp3 player. But the only time I listen to music is when I'm in the car, and I have a CD player. so that would seem useless as well.

It doesn't serve its purpose as a handheld video game console too well (the game library is still kind of weak) but the music and video features are neat, I guess.

They're really cool and I was really impressed across the board. However unless you travel a lot or are going to be playing it on the go it's really a waste of money. Why would you sit around playing a hand held device when you could be playing on your home TV?

I guess sony is coming out with a new product that will allow you to stream tv content to the PSP, as well as a device to stream PSP games to the tv but use the PSP to control.

They also added a real life web browser recently, so if you're near an open hot spot or wireless router it's go time.

It's also going to be a big part of PS3 integration as well suposedly.

yeah, basically. it's kind of a watered down PS2. it's a portable game player, music player, and movie...player, but if you don't need any of these things, then there's really no reason to get one.

pros: It can technically play games.

cons: if you can call them games, that is.

Liberty City Stories is a fine game, but other than that, eh. UMD format movies aren't worth it in the least, and and there are much better digital music players out there for much less money.

gamewise, the grapics are somewhere inbetween N64 and Dreamcast, as they are with the nintendo DS. this is incredible for a handheld, but it takes more than graphics to impress me, and frankly, I've not been too impressed by either handheld so far.

Take the $250 dollars you'd spend on a PSP, and buy a Nintendo DS and a few games.

The PSP is a great media player, but don't expect much more than that, the system has more movies out than games...the game software is sorely lacking too, in both quality and quantity.
