Minus the "rap", that's actually a pretty good song if you ask me.

Power Of Goodbye is definitely a good choice. I think most of her work with Patrick Leonard is good, though. That may have been their last collaboration, I believe.

Live To Tell is a good one, too.

Borderline is in my top 10 for sure.

edit: I like how only guys have replied so far. That's kinda saying a lot.

I would go with Like a Prayer as well. Actually I reckon it's pretty much the only Madonna song I actually like; the rest I just sort of tolerate.

You mean you just "tolerate" Lucky Star?

I knew it was only a matter of time before a non-male posted in this thread, btw. Other than Auton, that is.

Frozen
Live To Tell

I like La Isla Bonita too because when I was about seven-years-old I thought she was singing Last night I dreamt of some bagels like lots of people did.

I think Crazy For You is the favourite.

I dig La Isla Bonita. I'm surprised that Diddy hasn't jacked it and turned it into a hit single for himself.

The intro to Papa Don't Preach is magnificent. I could just sit there and rewind it and listen to it for literally minutes on end.

I think Promise To Try is probably among the more embarrassing choices I'm willing to openly admit here.

I love Papa Don't Preach, Kelly Osbourne couldn’t even spoil it for me. Although I can’t help thinking of cars since they used that mega intro for Vauxhall car ads.

Into the Groove is my absolute favorite. The lyrics aren't as risible in that song as many others she has done.

I also think Bedtime Stories is one of her most solid albums if taken as a whole. I like a lot of the songs on it, there aren't many that I skip.

Promise to Try, wow. That makes me think of other ones that weren't singles that I like.

White Heat:

Get up, stand tall
Put your back up against the wall
Cuz my love is dangerous
This is a buuuust!

I think that Till Death Do Us Part could have been a single, too. But I think I like Causing A Commotion better than Into The Groove. I know that goes against popular opinion, but hey.

Btw, I agree that Kelly Osbourne's version is way better than the original. We really do see eye to eye on so many different things, Clo.

I was embarassed to admit I liked the Kelly Osbourne version too. So ironic that she and her mom are forever cracking on Madonna.

Its so sad when the only thing worthwhile in an artist's catalog is a cover. Even if its a good cover.

Anyone else really like the Alien Ant Farm cover of Smooth Criminal?

I was kidding about liking the Kelly version of that song, too, btw. Looks like you may be on your own here on that one, yo. Holla.

Yeah, they had J-Lo singing a rendition of it on the hook of a song called Spanish Fly. But they didn't sample the music which is where the real hit coulda been had.

Madonna's looking pretty good (http://i.realone.com/assets/rn/img/5/7/4/4/8834475-8834477-large.jpg) on the cover of the latest ish of Rolling Stone. Not good enough for me to buy it, but good enough. Sooooo whatevs, man.

Hahaha, it's like when everyone's getting merry and in a circle spilling shameful secrets and you're all like "yeah I totally do that!" and everyone's looking at you kinda gone out like, "we were joking, man."

Strike a Pose. Vogue. I like that song because of it's High School talent show qualities.

I also liked the Kelly Osbourne cover of "Papa Don't Preach", If everything would of been snapping in Kelly's career at that time (ie; I were her manager) she would of released a cover of her Papa's "Ironman" song with one slight lyric change, "Irongirl".

Madonna extended mixes and mash-ups are about the only way I here her.

Ray of Light is a cool song.

My friend thought the line 'eyes like the desert' said 'eyes like pesetas'. Of course that would be euros now.

Back to the question in hand:

I really like Borderline but Dress You Up and Into The Groove come close runners up.

I guess I must be the only Madonna fan who hates Vogue. I fucking hate that song. I just think it sucks, its has nothing to do with the fact that I've heard it like 55986390869054863456930 times.

mickill
12-06-2005, 12:23 PM
No, I'm not a huge fan of Vogue either. But then, I didn't really like much of anything that came out between I'm Breathless and Ray Of Light. Except the Sex book. That was a good read.

hpdrifter
12-06-2005, 12:52 PM
But Bedtime Stories was decent. Secret, Human Nature, Survival, Take a Bow. Good stuff... I also think it was the era when she looked the prettiest. She was softer, the whole feel was brocade and pastels and silky soft. She hadn't gotten all stacker 3 from yoga yet and I thought the nose ring was really nice.

Before Babyface lost his edge and started producing Justin Guarini.

mickill
12-06-2005, 12:56 PM
Yeah see, I was never a Babyface fan. And he never had "an edge", man.

Yeah see, I was never a Babyface fan. And he never had "an edge", man.

Change the World was pretty edgy. That song broke musical boundaries. Eric Clapton, dude. CLAPTON! The king of edge.

Seriously, though. When Can I See You Again? That's one of the sweetest, most romantic songs ever. Its so plaintive. I love it. But I guess that's really the only bf song I can think of that I like. Except maybe Everytime I Close My Eyes. Crappy pop but we all have our guilty pleasures.

mickill
12-08-2005, 08:36 AM

Whoa. Take it easy. Let's just stick to the topic. And like I said, I'll let you know when.
