Um, No Sleep Til Brooklyn was a cover.

Yeah, man. The original Ad-rock, Mike D and MCA from 1910 recorded the song in the same Portuguese studio as Fado. Over a half of a century later, Rick Rubin and Adam Horovitz came across the unsolicited, NSTB demo tape in Rick's NYU dorm room. They thought it was a hit. So they put a paint job on that motherfucker and made millions.

It's a story I hate sharing, but at a party we had two guitars and some drums and a bunch of people got on and off them at various times. My friend had some decks there, too.

The bass was a tuned down gat, and three of us at that time did a slow version of Sabotage and then Tough Guy. Then some scratching came in and it went haywire, but in a fun way.

There was some girl rapping Body Movin too.

Anyway, fame was not for me, and I'm now a fishing-calendar model and dealer.

edit: the gear was so ghetto. The bass drum was wrapped in a carton we got from the supermarket though.

I'm a big fan of cover songs (when they are done well, obviously).

Usually when people do it, it's like b-grrlie said, an homage to a band they respect.

But, on that note, I only have one Beasties cover song and that's the Phish one, so carry on.

The only one I've ever heard that I liked was Anthrax's version of Lookin' Down the Barrel of a Gun. Every other cover seems like its from some wack alterna-rock band that has no fonk. Not only that but they always pick the worst songs to cover. Its always Fight for Your Right or Sabatoge or some shit. If you're going to cover something, pick something obscure or change it up. Like when the Beasties covered Time for Livin'. That's not one of Sly's biggest hits (which is why most people don't know its a cover) and they changed it from a soul song to punk rock song. Dope. Better than Ezra covering Fight for Your Right? Really fucking wack.

I've never heard this cover but i know that they have done it. It could very well be horrible but Dispatch is not anywhere close to being like Limp Bizkit or Crazytown (both terrible bands) If anything they are much more jamband influenced and good at the craft just wanted to set the record straight. i used to know a site that was great to find bands that have covered songs but i'm drawing a blank right now

Yep, that Merriweather show was the first time they ever played it -- I had the tape at one point, awesome that u were there!

I just found this awesome video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=56C2wCR55d0) of them opening Set III with it about a week later, 8/16/98 at The Lemonwheel, Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, ME. Looks like it killed again!

Paul Revere - Busta Rhymes (Green Lantern Mixtape)

(You're right busta did do it on DJ GL's mixtape... with Labba...)

Also Redman did a variation of Paul Revere - Down wit the Hit Squad or the Def Squad (one of those squadrons) as opposed to the Flipmode Squad.

(squad. squad? wow, skwaaad. Is squad a word?)

Yeah, I think Busta's version is smoother than Red's. :)

AHH, John C. Reilly has single-handedly saved America. Just go with me on that.

Speaking of which "Sabatoge" had quite the banner year. Closing number for every show on a major world tour . . . appearances in both Guitar Hero and Rock Band . . . and now this! Am I missing anything? Regardless, I vote it as Sexiest Song Alive, 2007.

The excellent Senser(y) covered Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun, which appeared on the b-side to the Age of Panic single in 1994, if memory serves me correctly. The Age of Panic remix on the single kicked serious ass by the way.
