Someone brought up a good point, as to why the Simpsons suck now in comparison to earlier years. Not just because they've been on the air so long that they've run out of ideas, but Homer's character has drastically changed.
Now he tries to be funny, he shows some biting humor at times and sometimes even wit. That's not him. He, by nature, is an idiot.
Examples:
Brain: "Wait! $20 can buy many peanuts!"
Homer: " 'Splain how!"
Brain: "Money can be exchanged for goods and services."
Homer: "WOO-HOO!" *runs and slips on peanut, loses $20*
For example (http://www.mandys-web.de/images/Simpsons/brain.jpg)
He hasn't been an idiot for quite sometime.

I think that's probably it. He single-handedly wrote the Monorail episode. Gold. (y)

That show died a horrible, horrible death the day Nsync guest starred.

i still finding it quite entertaining... but yes nsync did them no good i would have to agree
but you gotta respect the creator/workers even a little bit... cmon 17 seasons... that takes a lot of skills & dedication... frankly i don't want them to quit any time soon.

Another favorite of mine. Homer says his brain's working "a mile a minute" and they zoom into a shot of what's going on inside his head, and it's a little black-and-white cow, turtle, and a chicken all dancing up and down. One was playing a fiddle, another was playing a washboard. Just like those Disney cartoons from the 1920's.
I wish I had a picture of that too.

I don't like that nasty clean-cut computer animation they use nowadays either. The hand drawn method is what gave it its character.

yes yes! i remember stuff like that where it would show a thought bubble after being asked something like are you paying attention? then it would go to the bubble and some black and white completely random thing would be going on :D :D :D

Exactly!
My brother praises the new animation, but I think it just symbolizes the death of the show.

Ehhh, it could be a lot worse. No doubt the show's a shadow of it's former self, for whatever reason. But it can still be amusing at times; more so than a lot of junk on TV today.

I think the problem with the simpsons is they drew a line and they've pretty much stuck behind it, while other shows cross the line, making the simpsons seem fairly innocent and boring in comparison
i think i know why its starting to suck
because matt groening has less and less to do with the show now. i remember him saying in like the 5th season's comandentry however you spell that, he said that he has less and less to do with it over the years.
matt groening needs to come back :(

I think the show sucks now because of the terribly un-funny guests they roll out thinking it will draw in said guest fan base thus taking away from the good characters they have.

About after Homerpalooza I stopped finding the new eps really funny.
It probably peaked for me with that 22 short films about Springfield.
I agree that Homer is much less an idiot now, and just a dumb arsehole. He doesn't try to think much now. (n) Also, it seems to have less atmosphere.
Nothing can match moments like Dental Plan, I believe you have a letter for me, I'll call you Stitchface ones of Simpsons past.
