i think kinda along the same lines. if it's not a nuclear holocaust, it's us exhausting the resources so much that life just can't exist on here anymore. by that time, we may or may not have the technology to move to another world. carl sagan went into great detail on terraforming other planets, especially Mars, in Pale Blue Dot. it's pretty interesting.

I read an interesting view on this recently...

It starts with the Fermi Paradox which basically says that bearing in mind that there are sooooo many stars in our galaxy, and that around our star there exist 3 planets and several moons which are are least close to being able to support life (including of course earth which does support life) then one might resonably expect the galaxy to be absolutely full of life.

But if it were full of life and a fair portion of it was intelligent, we should be able to see evidence of it (in partiuclar we should see evidence of their radio technology, as we have been pumping space full of ours for decades). But we see nothing, no indication of life out there at all.

A number of explanations

1. Intelligent and technologically advanced life is extremely rare

2. They are way more intelligent than us and choose to hide themselves from us

3.And this is the interesting one, it is conceivable that it is inevitable that in te development of any particular intelligent species, there is a very small window of time between discovering the use of radio transmission for communication and either unlocking the power of uranium and destroying ones self or creating an global ecological disaster. As a result species always destroy themselves pretty soon after they become advanced enough to become obserable withour current technology. So it may well be that this will be our fate.

My guess would be nuclear war, nuclear technolgy is getting cheaper, weapons are proliferating, the world resources are dwindling, its all going to kick off sooner or later


I assume in the question when you say world you mean humanity? The world itself will end when the sun runs out of fuel, turns into a red giant and engulfs the earth.....
