The anniversary of his death isn't until the 10th, so this thread should be on page 3 by then.

OD'd after his birthday party, didn't he?

What a shame. Great, great bass player. Mighty good singer. Pretty good solo album.

I don't know if he od'd. I know he died in his sleep the day before his birthday, though.

And that he was waaaaaaaay more awesome than Dimebag.

...yeah; died the day after his birthday. I'm pretty sure he was found dead in the morning after his party.

Nope; just a few days shy of his birthday, I guess. Huh. "Heart attack."

I didn't even know he was dead. :o

He had to be a saint to put up with Robbie and his enormous ego.

....Rick and Richard are both dead.

Levon has throat cancer; if you listen to his commentary on the DVD of The Last Waltz, you know he won't be singing again anytime soon. :(

Is he? I wasn't sure.

I think John Simon's dead now, too.

I'm probably wrong. I thought I saw something about it, after Richard killed himself. But I looked on a website for The Band and they have Garth being alive.

I should research before I say people are dead. :o

I don't like This Wheel's On Fire that much, but he was an awesome bass player.

I actually saw Rick Danko the day before he died at an extremely small, private party. It was around Christmas time and it was a holiday party at a bar called "Beales Street Blues". It was invite only, thrown by the owner of the small club. He knew Danko, so Danko was there. He took the stage for a couple of tunes, and then walked down from the small stage right next to me, brushing my shoulder in the process. He was a very large man in his later years, much larger than you know him from the Last Waltz. I found out a couple days later that he had died the following day.

^^ That sort of story always freaks me out. I realize that everyone had to be somewhere the night before they died, but still.

Yeah, Garth seemed like someone I'd like to eat dinner with and have a chat. Perhaps I still can, being that he's not dead.

Richard came across as so easy going, I was surprised at how he ended up, but my most vivid memories are from the film, which is obviously old.
