the newer albums by buck65, dungen, and animal collective have been gracing my ears frequently over the last couple of months.

i have also been listening to that yo la tengo collection thing that came out this year, and some of their albums.

also, i have picked up 'madonna' by ...trail of dead for the first time in a couple of years. i had forgotten hoe frenetic the album is in places. blew me away all over again.

these are my favourite songs from the above:

'le 65isme' by buck65
'det du tänker idag är du imorn' by dungen.
'the purple bottle' by animal collective.
'autumn sweater' by yo la tengo, remixed by kevin shields.
'from black to blue' by yo la tengo.
'a perfect teenhood' by ...and you will know us by the trail of dead.

fascinating i know.

and just heard a track by Amon Tobin which was great, have to hear more of that!!!!

Also been listening to whatever Fat Boy mp3's I can get my hands on. And the Beatles as usual. In the car I've been listening to Solid Gold Hits and Illmatic. Good driving CD's.

Who would that include? Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Art of Noise? That's the stuff I dug up and was listening to a few months ago. Good stuff.
It was Joy Division earlier in the year. At some point, I found my Kraftwerk LPs. Then I went off in a bunch of different directions getting ready for various concerts. I came back to some fairly respectable 80s music. That led to Pet Shop Boys and Human League, etc. Now it's just any music of the 80s where it sounds like a Casio keyboard might be involved. I was recently busted at a stoplight singing along to Haircut 100's Love Plus One (with full body movement). I blame the onset of winter. And the dirth of upcoming concerts. I don't think Soul Asylum will affect me.

other than that, I've been all up on some old Weezer, some Joy Division, the Hardcore Devo albums, the new Alkaline Trio album, and Barenaked Ladies 2nd album.

I've been discovering the multi-layered, skillfully handled instrumentation and subtle emotional shadings of musicians like N-Sync and Britney Spears..........I have also discovered that the dust bunnies under my bed have built an espresso machine and are planning to attack me with jets of hot black liquid from this diabolical machine.

:D

Actually, I've been listening quite a bit to these two CDs:

* Redlight (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1193839&style=music&cart=293610667&BAB=E)
* Close My Eyes (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6195135&style=music&cart=293610667&BAB=E)

.....both by The Slackers.

I've always been interested in ska music, and a more knowlegeable buddy is helping me pick different versions of it to listen to.

I've been wanting to get back into more downtempo stuff, but can't swing any new stuff right now so I have been re-visiting my old stuff like the "DJ Kicks" series of CDs, one by Kruder & Dorfmeister and the other by Thievery Corporation; Supreme Beings of Leisure's self-titled album (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1203905&style=music&cart=293610667&BAB=M); the spacey-but-cool flow, river of my soul (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1659661&style=music&cart=293610667&BAB=M) (a mishmash of new age lyrics, hip-hop & acid jazz by an Austrailian band) and similar music. For some reason winter's grey days put me in the mood for these kinds of albums.

Excellent choices, my friend! The Slackers are a great ska band. Easily the best ska band of the modern age.

Meanwhile, I've been listening to a lot of Sublime (man, Bradley Nowell's vocals bring a lump in my throat even if the songs are happy).

As well as some hardcore punk (Suicidal Tendencies, Adolescents, Agent Orange). I'd especially recommend Suicidal Tendencies to Tzar as it's a fusion between hardcore punk and metal thrash AND Robert Trujillo (current Metallica bassist) was also a member of Suicidal Tendencies at one point.

*does a \m/ specially for Tzar*

Indeed. I find it odd that nobody ever discusses them on here. In fact, it got to a point where I actually signed up to their message board just so I could talk about them. 40 oz to freedom is one of my favourite albums ever. I wonder what would have happened if they were still around now. I mean theres been alot of bands that have lost their lead singer in their prime, but Sublime still hadn't broken through, you know, never really fullfilled their potential in terms of an album that didnt have any filler tracks :(

I dunno, I'd say "40 oz. to Freedom" was pretty close to a perfect album.

But yeah, I know what you mean. And it's especially sad that they're big break was just a few months AFTER Brad's death. :(

P.S. - Have you heard their collection of acoustic performances? Some of the tracks are of varying quality (you could tell he was smoking too much weed beforehand in some places ;) ), but there's a few songs on there that are just devastating. His acoustic rendition of "Saw Red" nearly brings tears to my eyes...

Yeah that live/acoustic cd is alright, except most of the live tracks are really shitty quality. And the crowd sounds as if they're not even listening.

But 40 oz to freedom would be a perfect album if it wasnt so damned long, i think its about 70 minutes and its 22 tracks. About 16 are great, the other 6 or so are filler, which it didnt even need.

A.T.H.F is the only track on Dangerdoom I'm really digging atm.

And re: Suicidal. Tzar would love their shit. Steer clear of anything from 94 onwards, though. In 92 they released a serious rock album with Josh Freese on drums, and strings and shit which coupled with Mike Muirs' Infectious Grooves work at the time isn't too bad. With that in mind, I'd recommend checking out 'Sarsippius' Ark' too. Infectious cover 'Fame' and 'The Immigrant Song'.

'Lights, Camera, Revolution' and the first album (and its subsequent remake) are good times. 'You can't bring me down', 'Suicide's an Alternative', 'Institutionalized', and 'Send me your money' are some of my favourites from both of those albums.

'How will I laugh tommorrow?' was the original emo. And the feel like shit ep has my favourite: 'Waking the Dead'.

In about 95 Trujillo split to work with Ozzy, and the Infectious Grooves line-up at the time melded with what was left of Suicidal (Brooks Wackerman on drums, Mike Clarke from ST on rhythm, the Infectious lead guitarist) and a new bassist to record some new shit for a 'Fresh Cuts' best of. They re-recorded 'Possessed to Skate' and while it sounded more punk rock, lost the thrash charm of the original. I guess you could say the same of the 'Still Cyco after all these years' album, but I like the remakes in that instance. Something about that completely different line-up celebrating an album they weren't involved with was cool to me.

The trivia of the day is that Amery 'AWOL' Smith was Suicidal's original drummer, back when they used to play at rent-parties, and on the first album.

I used to own all of their shit, and sold it for substances. (n)

As of recent, Black Sabbath and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Sabbath is most certainly the definitive metal band. No doubts...

I've been quite addicted to Jawbreaker recently.

You all could use some more Jawbreaker in your lives...

My bad. Good Charlotte and Evanescence are true voices for this generation.

Carry on.

Propably since they were on some popular TV-show....

hadn't checked this thread for ages so I had missed that one...

I haven't found anything new and interesting resently, feel totally washed. I'm from Barcelona are the only who've made me prick up my ears when I've heard them on the radio, but that's mainly because their track We're from Barcelona reminds me of something else and I can't put to my finger on what.

It's interesting...I bought it because the 'Boards of Canada' remixed one of his tracks. A completely different sound than the original album. It departs from the sound byte sampling and moves more towards a purely electronic sound.

So, quick answer is no...if you don't like any genres of electronic music then you wouldn't really dig it i'd think.
