"Song sites face legal crackdown" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4508158.stm)

excerpt from above link:

The music industry is to extend its copyright war by taking legal action against websites offering unlicensed song scores and lyrics.

..............

MPA president Lauren Keiser said he wanted site owners to be jailed.

He said unlicensed guitar tabs and song scores were widely available on the internet but were "completely illegal".

Mr Keiser said he did not just want to shut websites and impose fines, saying if authorities can "throw in some jail time I think we'll be a little more effective".
Damn.

For an explanation of why *musicians* might be screwed by illegal lyric sites (I'm not too sympathetic about the music labels themselves anymore  ), go to post #5 in this thread (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=247112).

On a slightly unrelated note many lyric sites are loaded with spyware and other hidden crap, which gets downloaded along with the lyrics (same with many "free" wallpaper sites). So beware.

I'll be pretty amazed if this stuff goes through. I mean - most sites are user submitted - and anyone can come up with a tab just by figuring it out for themselves. Lyrics are pretty much the same. If they can't stop mp3s, they won't be able to stop text for crap's sake.
