One of my roommates here keeps cranking the friggin' heat up to 70 every time he notices that it's down to 60, which is the normal spot where we keep it. See, the heater thing here doesn't exactly work correctly, so whatever you put the heat at, it continues to heat up to a minimum of five degrees up to ten degrees past the setting it's currently set at.

Besides, we're poor college kids! He should consider himself lucky that he lives with some conscious suckers who realize that when the heating bill comes, it ain't gonna be cheap. There's a reason people have sweatshirts, blankets, afghans, and all that other crap you keep in your house.

I almost forgot to mention that this dude is from the north. This guy should be totally comfortable with temperatures that are lower than what most people can stand! Their snow up there never practically melts... and this dude can't stand temperatures below 75 degrees? Come on, dude. This shit is nuts.

Oh, great, he just turned the heat back up. I can hear the damn stuff running. SON OF A BITCH. I'm going to kill this fucker. All he does is play World of Warcraft anyway. That son of a bitch.

Ask your landlord to see if he/she can get you an automatic thermostat that can be programmed and preset.

How many people are there in the house atogether? If everyone else in in agreement that it stays at 60, let him know that this is the case, set it at 60, put a big load of electrical tape over the dial so he can't change it without busting the tape, and tell him that if you guys find that he's taken off the tape, he will be solely responsible for the next 3 months heating bill. (Whose name does the bill come in, by the way?)

Am I the only one who lives with his mom?

this notion of "room temperature" being 72 degrees is crazy.

I believe 65 should be the new standard.

who's coming with me!

You should try and catch him in the mess hall and shank that boy with the handle of your toothbrush when nobody's looking. That's what I would do.

Heat is one thing I'm happy to spend money on.

But I guess that's the thing: I'm happy to spend money on it. I always had an arrangement with my roommates that I'd pay extra on the heating bill if they just couldn't bear with 67 degrees or so.

I won't be cold in my castle, thank you. (y) I also don't want to have to wear insulation just to survive my home. What is this, anyway -- "The Cask of Amontilado"? "To Build a Fire"?
