View Full Version : Do you take supplements?

When I can remember it, I take a big iron-free multivitamin and a couple of pills called Hair, Skin and Nails - which I assume are a capsulated form of concentrated hair, skin, and nails. I think it works, could be psychosomatic though. Not sure if I used that word correctly. Anywho, I also pop zinc and vitamin C on occasion. I think most people would benefit from a multivitamin.

I notice a significant and immediate difference in my appearance and general sense of well being from day to day depending on what I've eaten. I look best when I have overeaten (compared to my typical meals) I get this healthy glow in my skin and eyes when I have eaten a big meal. It's just a shame that what improves my complexion is not what improves my figure.

i have...
but i don't really believe in them...

i'm not sure they really do much...alot of studies show it to be bullshit.
you just piss most of it out....even if you take it with food.

clinical studies rarely show any marked benefits.

I take supplements, but they're lifting-related, etc.

I got a good complexion thing for ya. I have to dig it out, though, because I mix up a bunch at a time and forget the ratios. But it's olive oil/white vinegar/water. Or maybe olive oil/lemon juice/water. No, I think there's vinegar involved.

But anyway... wet your face at night, blend about a tablespoon into your skin, and that's it.

Olive oil's GREAT for the skin, anyway. I glow. People regularly come to me with Geiger counters, trying to get measurements to see if the county is safe.

...children read by me at night.

I usually take a women's daily vitamin combo business deal bob when I feel like I haven't eaten enough vegetables or fruit. but I never eat fruit anyway, unless I'm at a restaurant for breakfast. I should probably eat some fruit.

Nuzzolese
12-14-2005, 03:38 PM
I've used apple cider vinegar mixed with salt, a crushed aspirin, lemon juice, or any combination of any of those. That's good for your face skin. I'd be afraid that olive oil would clog my pores.

I know I piss out most of it, because my pee is bright yellow when I take it. I think that's the B vitamins. But I'm a vegetarian and I'm poor, so I'm afraid I don't get all those nutrients you get from liver, salmon, fish oils, nuts...I mean I eat nuts but they're so fatty and expensive.

Not really. I just try to eat the right foods. I get my vitamin c from citrus fruits, my potassium from bananas, my calcium from skim milk, my omega fats from fish and olive oil, my protein and mercury fom canned tuna etc.

Goofy? As in constipated? Iron pills do that to me. I just take the extra vitamins because see I have lots to do and I never like to feel drained or dull. I just want to be the best I can be, and they don't replace food but they keep me from being anemic and low in whathaveyou.

Depending on what shift I'm going to be working and if I'm going to get a chance to eat decent food, I'll sometimes take a multivitamin/multimineral. I also usually take spirulina tablets too.

And if I feel a cold coming on I take Echinacea and Ginseng, it usually helps quite a lot.

I do take the occasional garlic extract or oregano oil when I'm feeling a bit under the weather. And I do eat/drink protein supplements, but I'm not that enthusiastic about supplements in general. That's all I meant.

goofy as in dizzy, not myself, can't concentrate. It's very strange because I have tried several different types of multi and its always the same, I even tried taking them before I went to bed because I thought when I woke up, I wouldnt have that effect...but no. When I stop taking them, it stops.

PS
I have the same problem with iron pills.

I have this spray bottle of something called Liquid Aminos, you spray it on your food or, conceivably, the back of your throat a la chloroseptic, but I wouldn't advise that.

I used to take Yerba Mate pills for energy, it's basically caffeine. I've taken ginseng and I think it helped a little but no more than a cup of coffee would. I had these clear capsules of powdered ginseng, and oh man if you didn't take it with enough water...I had one stuck it my throat but didn't feel it, thought I had swallowed it, coughed a little, saw a cloud in front of my face, didn't realize in confusion that it had come from me until suddenly that dry nasty caked powdered made itself known in my mouth, didn't get the taste out for hours.

I bought a bottle of vitamins once and it just sat there, on the shelf. I just don't get it. I worked out for years and was constantly inundated with various supplements from the trainers at the health club, I never tried any of them.....I still workout, but most of those trainers have left and new ones are trying to sell me new improved supplements  . I want to whack them with the Wiffle Ball Bat.

If you say they work for you, I'm happy for you.

I don't think supplements are harmful, other than many are just giving a certain number of people a misplaced sense of well-being. Life doesn't neccasarily mean your supposed to feel good all the time.

I have taken Cold-Eze before a cold sets in. I'm into eating really good food. Thats where my supplemental cash goes.

I am a subscriber to CSPI (http://www.cspinet.org/) newsletter, they do a great job of presenting nutritional information so at least I know what that Whopper is doing to me.

i think mickill said it the right way!You dont need to take supplement if you have a good diet/taking all you vitamins and power out of them!I eman there is no others to get the nutrient from the real and fresh source!but ,,,fuck we are not god so...

But i still take some vitamine c,colloid silver(maybe its more mental but its seem to help the immune system, its the best natural antiobiotic out there)garlic capsul, not all the time, just when i feel a cold cominmg or kinda need a booste of some sort!.For replacing the coffe buzz,i did take the green + potion. It"s a mix of spirulina, apple pectin, alfafa, barley, wheet grass, royal gelly, gingko bilboa, green tea, grapes extract,chlorella....
After one weeks of use,i see the difference in my body,i did not need a coffee or green tea in the morning,i was really more in the groove! But it's kinda taste so ,so,you have to mix it with some good apple juice!!

I take Greens+, a multivitamin, biotin, StressB complex and flaxseed oil everyday

vegetarians should take flaxseed oil if they cant take fishoil supplements
I take the flaxseed pills cause they are cheaper than salmon oil ones

Mr. Boomin'Granny
12-14-2005, 10:46 PM
yes i do.

I take a liquid multi-vitamim (absorbs better than a tablet)
aloe vera juice
fish oil caplets
pro-biotics.

all this i take (minus the mulit cause thats just stupid not to take one) is for my condition and has helped some. Since i havent been on meds in almost a year, i've been doing the same and even better. Of course watching what i eat helps, allthough hard to do with what i can/cant eat (im on a low fiber diet).

cosmo105

you people bitching about not absorbing need to get off the goddamn tablets and get on either capsules, softgels, or liquid. tablets are hard to break down and absorb, especially iron - it can be VERY constipating. take iron in liquid or chewable form if possible.

i take:

liquid multi
1000 mg esterfied C
1000 iu vegetarian E
99 mg chewable iron
probiotics, varying in size - usually around 5 billion live cells
usually a sublingual b complex with 12,000 mcg b12 but my goddamn store's been out of it so i'm taking 5,000 mcg b12 on its own
flaxseed oil, at least one tablespoon daily - heiress you should switch to liquid instead of capsules because you should be taking one tablespoon of it per hundred pounds of body weight daily and you'd have to take 14 softgells to equal just one tbs.
when i remember, liquid chlorophyll
at night: liquid calcium/magnesium/zinc/d complex, 1000 mg
occasionally a greens complex, occasionally a protein/multivitamin supplement especially for vegans + a tablespoon or so of flaxseed meal - Vegan Complete (http://www.nexternal.com/vegane/images/VeganCompleteJugFinalLg.jpg).

and i eat a healthier diet than just about everybody i know.

cosmo105
12-15-2005, 12:37 AM
no silly. but it's a green supplement that's really good for keeping you smelling nice, among other things. not that i do, but i've always been paranoid about b.o. and it's pretty cheap.

when i'm exposed to something like cold/flu, i take olive leaf extract, but i'll also load up on the C (sometimes like 5 g a day) and i'll take a comprehensive immune formula like Source Naturals' Wellness Formula (http://www.nutricoonline.com/store/images/snwellnessfor.jpg). If I feel like i really have something, i take colloidal silver or oregano and that every few hours. fucktopgirl - only take the colloidal silver when you need it, and for no more than 10 days at a time or so. it's a natural antibiotic, and you're building up your body's immunity to it if you overdo it. just like any other supplement.

I go to booster juice here in canada

really those drinks are not that great for you cause they use sorbets in alot of their mixes and you end up not caring cause it tastes so good
but its convenient and yes better than 3 cheeboogies from McDs
its far to cheaper to just throw fruit, yoghurt and protein powder into a blender at home but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

nuzzo, Greens+ (http://www.greensplus.com/) is made by sam gracie who is my demi-boyfriends nutritional god and hes met him 3 times in person already

its comes in either a powder or capsule form

as far as absorbing goes, it seems to work for iron even in the one-a-day tablets. once I went to give blood and they did the test with a drop in water and it sunk slowly and they reccomended more iron in the diet. So, I started taking the one-a-days, and the next time I tried (a couple of years later) it sunk good.

so, yeah. I take em.

cosmo105
12-15-2005, 01:01 PM
actually, one-a-days are crap anyway because they're cramming way too many things into one capsule/tablet. and then you don't get enough of what you should, and you don't absorb all of it anyway. and iron absorption is different for everyone.

They tried to get me to take "weight gainer" when I was released from the hospital. I drank it twice and got sick both times.

I'm on some calcium pills and taking 2 extra strength tums right now. My doctor wants me to get on a multi-vitamin, but I'm not a big fan. Plus, your body absorbs vitamins better when it's digesting food -- breaking down the amino acids. Otherwise, much of the vitamins go to waste.
