well, she's going to buy it for herself as an investment, and let me live in it while I pay the house payments.

hurrah! I'm almost a real adult now. except that I'll be living in a house my mommy bought me like a spoiled little brat.

this house is lovely, but I'm not sure about the neighborhood.

crap, it should probably be a condo so I don't have to do yardwork.

I enjoyed the virtual tour.

My dad has six houses, but he didn't help me buy mine. Or give me one of his. :(

Oh, I don't know about that. I know a couple of other people who have gotten their first homes this way. If the parents have the resources to do it, it's an excellent way to help your child get onto the property ladder.

There's quite a big difference between a parent buying something "for" a child outright, and buying an investment property that the child then maintains and on which he/she makes the payments. I would rather my kid pay money to me each month as an investment in their future, rather than pissing it away to a landlord - there's no return in that.

Mr.peachy and I certainly hope to be able to do this for own kid. We've talked about the idea of buying an apartment in whatever dity they end up going to university in someday and then letting it out to them with roommates; seems a much better option than paying for them to live in a dorm.

well, my mom sold a condo for a tidy profit and bought the house that her boyfriend rented, but now he wants to buy a detached condo with his own money and she stands to make money off the house when it sells, so she wants to buy more real estate and help me get established in the meantime. she said that she'd rather I have some benefits now, instead of waiting until she "kicks" (her word, heh).

The house looks really nice. If you love your mom, take damn good care of those hardwood floors - they're expensive to redo. Trust me I know this; we wrote huge check for just this thing last week.

ah! that's not the house being bought. I'm just checking out the market, and that one caught my eye. it's on the south side, which is too far away from my friends and jobs.

Is that the price range? You get a lot of house out there for that price. In Seattle it would be twice that price.

Having a house is a blast, whatever you end up with, "Enjoy"!

well, that's a great house for that price because it's on the southside. which can be quite dangerous depending on the neighborhood. If that house were on the northside it'd be like $800,000.

austin? that's what it says, I have no idea. this won't be happening for like 6-18 months, so it won't be that house. it is awfully nice though. I'll let you know!

i'd rather have my kids work for what they have....they'll appreciate it more.........

i got friends that have had their cars, houses, education and jobs handed them.....and they're all out of touch with reality!

Oh, they will still have to work, trust me. I mean, we're not talking about a "free ride", just a financial situation that is advantageous to all parties. Mr.p and I are quite firm believers in instilling a strong work ethic, and showing gratitude for our good fortune. If I thought for a minute that my kid lacked appreciation for what was being done for them, remember, I am still the property owner. If I buy a property and they fail to maintain it appropriately, trash the place, don't make payments, etc, I am quite sure I would be able to find other tenants, you know? They'll learn the hard way if it comes to it, but I'm hoping that I can raise them with better values than that to begin with.

But, if they're good kids, studying hard, working hard, taking care of the place,l and general being a responsible young person, why would I not do everything I can as a parent to ensure their future financial security? After all, someday they're liekly to be in a position where they will need to take care of me.
