I disagree. I know that I, and pretty much anybody else that was feeling Illmatic when it dropped, wanted Doe Or Die to be another classic, but it was a disappointment.

1.Intro........good, but nowhere near as memorable as the intros on Illmatic, Ready To Die or Cuban Linx

2.Uncut Raw........Good vocals, sort of an average beat. Anyway, it is not fucking with NY State Of Mind, Things Done Changed or Knuckleheadz at all

3.Gimme Yours.....I actually like this better than The World Is Yours (Not that it's similar, but seriously, Gimme The Loot is way sicker)

4.Ho Happy Jackie.....Gay. No further comment.

5.Rather Unique........Good song, but it's no Incarcerated Scarfaces or Unbelievable.

6.I Feel For You.........Wack. Period. Listen to Halftime instead.

7.Sugar Hill...............Good single, but it's not touching Juicy or Ice Cream (I like it ten times better than It Ain't Hard To Tell, though)

8.Mo Money, Mo Murder......I think it's a good song, but it's not exactly the best Nas/Az collab (think Phone Tap or Life's a Bitch) and it's way too long

9.Doe Or Die.......I hate N.O. Joe beats. This song sucks.

10.We Can't Win..........Just nothing special....and what's with the one old verse?

11.Your World Don't Stop......Best song on the album. I can't say anything bad about it.

12.Sugar Hill - (remix)........I like it better than the original

these 3 I think are better then expected though, I really feel that this is a lost classic I don't know I've always like AZ flow (Talib only 10x better) and the production as well as lyrical styles he spits on this LP are far beyond what anybody was doing at the time (his styles unique). I just bought it a couple ago and I was impressed, espically by Gimme Yours.

Verse 1: AZ

Yo, it's hard to show resistance when money-gettin niggas
need my assistance to stock figures, beyond non-existence
Fuck keepin my distance, cos bein poor produced persistence
Plus plea's, a hundred G's, I had me blockin out of jail centres
I'm recognised by the illest of individuals
Killers and criminals, even willies that's really into jewels
But still sceptic on who I cling to
Cos every single nigga that swing thru, ain't my man just cos we mingle
To mistake shit, even females be feedin off that fake shit
Filled with envy and hatred but my high hopes help me escape it
Temporarily the window world, don't read the wise
Verbally nourish me, properly with that inner city, urban GC
I fucked with those beyond my age bracket
cos they analyse and mack to get the papers and stack it
Leavin no trace to track it, keep on thinkin tappers is accurate
That mack shit, livin the lifestyle, we filled with black wit

Verse 2: AZ

So in God I trust, I lust for a 850-deluxe
And in too, I touch a million-plus, ain't much to discuss
Diamonds and double-digits, Gianni Versace down with lizards
It's realism so I visualisin to live it
Movin cleverly wit intentions of longevity
Strong pedigree got me touchin papers, others would never see, G
So do the crest in my claw, flourescents
symbolises the essence, you're sailin in a sweppervescence
Drug investments, a street thug's plug, the insurance, but informers
they had you wanted for warrants 'fore you get enourmous
Life's a performance so players play wit endurance
cos from war sense, any villain's willing to get more intense
They tried to break us but all it did was just make us
travel across acres for papers, bonafide money takers
Cos though we know somehow we all gotta go
As long as we're leavin thievin, we'll be leavin wit some kind of doe,
so...

thats without doubt...1993-1996 pretty much by itself shits on the 2000-2005 at least in terms of the amount of quality LPs that have been produced

I should ask the question is his debut better then Nas' sophmore effort?

Yeah, but you could say that about a lot of the albums from 10 years ago.

As far as '95 goes, I think that The Infamous, Me Against The World and even Jealous One's Envy were all better. Nevermind stuff from '94 and '96. I think this album gets as much credit as it deserves. It went Gold or something, I think.

I like It Was Written better, despite it being an even bigger disappointment than Doe Or Die..

exactly.

well in terms of discussion all you ever hear about, at least from those who enjoy the sounds of East Coast rap from this era are OB4CL,Illmatic and Ready to Die....hardly does the conversation include Me Against the World(which has an east coast sound thus the reason why many might feel it's his best lp unviersally), The Infamous or Doe or Die at least the ones I have seen or been a part of

Higher high points. Even though the low points included garbage like Black Girl Lost, Watch Dem Niggas and Suspect. But Take It In Blood, I Gave You Power and Shootouts were better than anything on Doe Or Die.

I disagree but I can see your points since I enjoy those songs you listed

given that I try to flow, I always thought of my style (although my favorite is OBVISOULY 2PAC) more along Nas/AZ/Mos given the way they delievered their rhymes, the sound of their production and how they ride the beat as well as the content of their rhymes being packed with lyricism and if people will understand and comprehend what your spitting. Thus, in a sense, I always prefered AZ to Nas, although, without a doubt, Nas is overal (in terms of the total package) one of my favorites. I guess thats why I prefer Do or Die to It Was Written, even though Illmatic is obvious in terms of how it trumps on a good portion of rap in general.

they both killed it, I don't knwo this CD takes me back.....I know thats sounds foolish to the older heads, but believe it or not this was my life (in terms of the sound not the drug pushing) given that it is very reflective in terms of production and raps. Gimme Yours espcially give me that nostalgia feeling

It's Doe, not Do.

I think it's a pretty boring album. *honk shoo*
