I installed mine on Saturday.
So far I love Sirius. I only heard a short piece of Howard's show this morning...I listened to the rebroadcast of it again this evening.

Emails for penis enlargement contain more tangible value.
I got Sirius for Artie...not Howard.
I was all cool with it, until I found out that he won't be letting sirius broadcast his show on the net. Fucking asshole. I'm not gonna carry one of those boomboxes from my house to my office and back daily....what the fuck?
I think XM has better channels though.....plus they have a portable receiver that you can carry with you anywhere. Sirius needs to step it up some. Not now, but right now.

I thought of Q when they showed this Ted Nugent look-a-like tuning into his Sirius this am to catch Howard Stern. What a maroon.
I'd only get it if they old school mix shows were better than my vinyl collection.

It used to be interesting when my mom would drop me off for school and Howard Stern was playing when i got out of the car. Administrators and teachers would give me the dirtiest looks.

I don't get the Howard Stern love. It seems allot of people on this board who I consider to be somewhat intelligent are fans. How many times do you need to hear him talk to some thoughtless broad about her titties? What am I missing?

that's about 20% of the show.
statements like yours show that you never listen to the show....you just caught a couple of E! shows and base your opinions on that.

You are missing that its random and relaxed compared to most generic predictable shows. Yes, Howard has girls on but its not always about that. Lots of people I know who like Howard have certain topics where we will turn the station. I find the girl chatter pretty boring unless there is a porn star who I happen to fancy that is talking about her line of work.

When I was 19 I had a 68' Ford Falcon with 1 AM station with Stern on it. I was forced to listen to it him every morning. I remember him talking about negotiations about the movie that became 'Private Parts' and him replaying clips of himself on Letterman, etc. He seems like an egotistical idiot who isn't funny.

I can't believe he got 200 million dollars for the product that is 'Howard Stern'.

I actually find him funny and refreshing away from his show. But his show is boring, with bits of base humor and fart jokes thrown in.
I don't mind the porn stars, if it's interesting. But how many times is he going to 'dissect' that a porn star was either sexually abused or abandoned by her father and that's why she turned to porn.

I dont know ive had it for a year now, I honestly cant live without it. I listened to the show today and found it funny. I dont listen to talk radio that much but I like this. Plus Bubba the Love sponge is on Howerds station (He used to be a dj near me in tampa until he got fired) and hes pretty funny too. Anyway it should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I like XM -- the music channels are more my speed.
I find everyone's obsession with Stern deeply mystifying. He came to my market years ago and didn't last long. I had hoped that he would take down our most popular morning radio host and I actually listened, but Stern didn't make a dent and eventually slunk quietly away.
Here's a question I've had since then so I would appreciate the help. When Stern came to Minneapolis, for a week or so, his show seemed to focus on direct attacks against the main morning show competition--I mean the whole show was Stern running clips of our local show and making fun of it. This went on for at least a week, but I think longer. It was hilarious because I hate the local show. But did Stern actually broadcast this completely local attack all around the country? Did people in other states who have no idea who this Minneapolis radio guy was have to listen to clips from a show they never heard? There's no way Stern taped a whole bunch of shows just for us, and they seemed live. You Stern fans, did you hear Stern doing that to local radio guys in other markets?

When I was a College freshman communications major, waaaaaayyyyyy back in the fall of 1995 my professor gave a lecture in which he stated: "In the future you'll be able drive cross country and listen to ONE radio station all the way. it's going to be called satellite radio." We were all ohhhhhhhh and ahhhhh, wow, won't that be cool.
So now it's finally here and I have to wonder if it will eventually edge out FM/AM. If it does, will they begin to regulate it in the same way the FCC does for FM/AM?

yeah he does that shit alll the time. Its nation wide...not just your market. If he is talking smack about Bill and Jerry or whoever your morning show is....everyone that is listening to Stern hears it.
Stern isn't even that funny. He can be, but he isn't that great. Its all about Artie. Ya Heard!?!?

What kind of music does XM have that Sirius doesn't?
I got hooked on Stern in the early 90s when he first came to New Orleans. I don't remember him bashing the local morning guys though. But I do remember him talking about Mancow. Then when I moved to Chicago...I finally understood what he was talking about.
I can't really put my finger on what I like about the Stern show. It's a variety of things. It's the fart jokes, mixed with news of the day, mixed with politics, mixed with sex, mixed with just plain ole stupid stuff.
And I'll agree with Rock...Artie adds something to the chemistry that it never had before.

I must have missed a meeting or something....but for some reason I thought Howard's show was going to be commercial-free.
When I turned it on this morning there were just as many commercials as always it seemed. But I guess it makes sense. There ARE commercials on all of the television cable channels and stuff.

The commercial thing is puzzling. I happen to be stuck in Buttfuck, MN for work and the hotel has shitty TV and I saw Stern on Larry King and Stern was going on and on about how liberating it is to not have to worry about when te commercials are going to be--not having to keep a schedule.
I went with XM because it seemed to have more commercial-free channels within my areas of interest, the devices that carried it seemed better to me. But I decided that a couple of years ago and haven't looked back, so I don't really know anything.
Thanks, Rock, for answering my question. Stern was hilarious when he was making fun of our local buffoons, but he didn't last long. Our free paper did an article about how the markets that successfully dealt with Howard were the ones where the other shows completely ignored him, and that's what happened here.
When he was here, I was surprised at how middle-aged women were listening, but not men in their late 20s and 30s -- at least among the people I know. We have a pretty good sports station though.

I wish! Minneapolis is heaven on earth. I'm closer to Fargo, ND. -- my job is glamorous.
I keep thinking that a year ago I was getting ready to go to Australia for a few weeks.
