my super thought is that from an evolutionary and biological standpoint, it makes more sense for men to screw as many women as possible and spread thier seed around.

But because we humans are logical and emotional...we don't always do that. and then someone decided that a really good way to merge assets and farms and wealth would be to make two people from two different families promise to only make baies with eachother for the rest of thier life. and they decided to call that marraige.

I reckon we're a pretty varied species of creature. Some are cut out for monogamy and some aren't. The problem tends to be that whoever's in one group thinks that their way is THE way, and that the other is somehow inferior or unnatural. I think they're just different ways of taking the journey through life.

I don't think it has much to do with how we're made, but evolution. As was said before, spreading the seed was essential to building civilization. However, as that became counter-productive, other priorities emerged, such as wealth building, inbreeding, and disease spreading.

im pretty much with that idea of evolution, not just for men to spread their seed, but women to have as much seed spread in them as possible. but that isnt .. healthy. so we came up with the magic of monogamy.

im monogamous and able to be tempted to be otherwise. i would like to think that i can be with one person forever though. there's gotta be someone that's endlessly entertaining as such.

(I'm not going looking for any right now, because it's 11:00 on a Friday and I'm done working for the week, OK? You're just going to have to take my word for it. Or not. I don't care that much.)

I do think that our extended lifespan certainly makes 'serial monogamy' a much more likey proposition. I mean, when everybody died at like 45, it certainly made sense to couple up and start popping out offspring as early as possible, get as many out as you could, and then die. But now, not so much.
