so one of the managers at my place is like real young for a manager. he's only around 30. so he bullshits with all of us 20 somethings. me and him get along real well becuase all the people at my place are pretty much yuppies or real close to being yuppies and both of us are from the same neighborhood. since we're from the same neighborhood he gives me rides home from time to time. on the way home we usually bullshit about basketball, his fat wife, or the hot chick with the tight ass that came into work today. but today we were talking about computers and he got all excited becuase i knew my shit. then he goes as we reach my house, "yo man, you should give me your number in case my computer ever fucks up again!" then i got all weird becuase he's like my boss and shit and i kinda just laughed at him like if he was jokeing. he was even grabbing for some paper to write the shit down. but i just got out of his car and was all like "thanks for the ride, man. have fun. seeya later." and he had this look on his face like he just got rejected by some hot chick he wanted to take to the prom.

Funny, my boss does that shit too, once he finds out I know my shit about something he figures I'm going to donate it to him...on my dime. I usually pretend I don't know shit. I think he thinks I owe him or something. Wrong.

thats kind of funny actually. people tend to do that to me too wen it comes to computers. i don't really know a ton, but i know enough to get around lots of basic problems that people have.


i remember doing some work between powerpoint and word with my old boss. and he would be telling me about doing certain things that were real simple and basic. and i would always think "do you realize that we learn this shit in school now?" because pretty much any kid knows how to do the stuff he asked most of the time...

If as you say he's a youngish guy for management, he probably hasn't mentally made that leap yet that he isn't 'one of the floor guys' anymore and has to maintain a bit of a distance. He wants to be everyone's buddy, but he hasn't quite yet realised that that then undermines his position as boss and just builds resentment when he pulls rank.
