(warning:this thread is only for the trendy board members, you know who you are)
youre on your muscle machine, doing your thing, as if youve been doing it all your life, sitting on it the other way around, in the end,who knows, but youre making the weight go up and down so you must be doing something right. well thats how i feel abuot it anyway. and then you look around, and you think alright, everybodys got their tough serious face on, theres no laughing inside a gym, gotta be serious, maybe do the strong exhale thing in the second set, make it look proffesional, noeones there to fuck around. heeeey, yeeea, im here youre here, were both excercising, you can count on me, im serious and sweating just like you are, ive got my towel, my water bottle and i know where the start button on the treadmill is
but then, youve finished your first set, and youve gotta just sit there, youve stopped and youre resting, cuz, youre tired right, or at least youve gotta look it cuz then youre just fuckin around, youre not being serious and youre at a gym whats the matter with you. so youre tired and just finished yoru first set...what is that? what is that shit people do then? its like they have secret rules: you have to leave your arms hanging from whatever machine it is youre on, open your mouth a little while breathing and lightly panting, and take turns between hanging your head down looking at the ground without moving it and then looking at the person next to you with a blank, secure look on your face like"mmmhmm thats right were at a gym and were all serious about it"
oh the gym, the gym

sounds just a little too self-conscious, perhaps you should invest in an in-home system.

Well, if you really think about it, the gym is designed for the Ego to either be boosted or smashed to a pulp. I mean they put mirrors up everywhere so people can "check their form" but most people just use it as an opprotunity to do flex poses while pretending to do lateral raises or check themselves out from the side while doing curls, usually with a weight that's too heavy for them. So if you're already pretty developed all you have to do is blend in and as you said find your "in between sets look". But take the guy whose like ten years over weight or the guy who should've started lifting fifteen years ago and can't come close to even pressing his own body weight. those are the ones who just look awkward to me. The gym certainly is a little community unto itself. I still crack jokes though. Lifes not That serious

I used to go with friends and between sets make fun of the person at the machine. Either that or make fun of the other people together. There are some freaky weirdo's in gym's sometimes!
There was this one guy that reminded me of patrick bateman (american psycho). He had the exact same look when he was training and he always looked at himself in the mirror. He looked like he was turning himself on BIG TIME!
Me and my friends brought some cd's to the place (cdr's) so every time we got there there our music would be playing so that was just perfect.
Good times.

This kind of screwing around is part of why I don't like going to a gym. It's like the kids two rows behind you who are talking through a movie and checking their cell phones and stuff. It's like: why are you even here?

last winter ,i did go to the gym in my town ,its a very small gym!ANd i did not last long in there,,really not my element!People shure take themselves too seriously while pumping their muscle, looking their faces in the mirror, what ugly face they make too!.It seem that more noise their make when they pumping , more its is better !EVerybody got that attitude that their are fit and onn top :you see the guy/girl running and is on the verge of inconcience,,but still run,,cuz the pride shit thing. Its a self conscious atmosphere that really disguste me,,,
But its kinda scary and fucking hilarious!I dont go their no more,i prefer to walk, bike or hike the mountain!!At least i dont need to put up with all thoses freaks!

If you have fun to watch what other people are doing, let alone make fun of them, you're in the wrong place.
What to you think a gym is: a message board!?

In my defence it was a student gym. And besides, some people there just ask for it.
Oh and it's not like we pointed and laughed, we were discrete about our making-fun-of-ness.

i feel kinda dorky going into the student gym. like, theres a big heavy huge free weight room and then theres like, a machine type room. and usually i go there and run a mile then go to the machine room just to do back extensions and leave. i feel bad that i dont make rounds on all the machines.

i used to be scared of the gym for the same reasons.
everyone in there already has their routine down, and are looking all serious and tough, and then there's the people that stick out like a sore thumb.
but they're not really all bad. i work out in the weight room everyday after school now and it's actually really good.

My apartment building has a gym for the residents. It's just small, but it's not bad and it's got a steam room and suana, which is the only reason I put myself through that exercise crap in the first place really. I mean I don't really go down there now as I'm pregged up and all, but before when I did, it was really the best way to get to meet my neighbours.

How come if you are a weightlifer or wrestler that is suddenly a good look? Is it about moving heavy things? Although come to think of it if construction workers would wear them you'd at least be spared the butt crack.

Unless they ride up or something. Ewww.
Maybe jeans and a leotard. Just to be safe from crack.

and then theres those times when youre doing your stuff relatively close in front of a mirror and some huge gorilla with these weights that look like movie props comes along and places himself blocking your view to the mirror for a bit, and when he finishes and leaves, and you turn to look at the weight youre lifting it suddenly looks so cute and meaningless

Yeah that shit sucks or when you're working on a machine or at a station and a dude who is like 3x bigger is like "Hey bro, how many sets you got left? Can I work in with ya?" so in between his and my sets we have to add and remove like 300lbs of weight. Then I wind up dropping a plate on my foot and I cry....okay that hasn't happend yet, but I'm scared it will.

well around hear the gym is a social thing, theres always someone there you know, lots of people talk. I personally dont like to go to the public gym, I just dont get as much done there as I do by myself. When Im by myself I can get into "the zone", and do all the wierd faces I want cuz nobody can see. The gym around hear people are always just running and talking. When I used to work out on the bball team people always fucked around with you while you were doing shit....used to piss me the hell off. I guess I just like to work out privatly.
