Kool Moe Dee has a book called "There's a God on the Mic" where he apparently lists his top 50 artists. I was wondering if anybody has it or has seen the list? Thanks in advance.

Didn't that list wind up in 'The Egotrip Book of Raplists', or am I getting that mixed up with someone else?

lets be honest, as much as i like them, the beasties dont deserve to be in the top 50 mcs of all time. they'd probably agree too.

He has two lists in that book, the first one (which includes Beastie Boys) was made for his second solo album in 1987. The second one (without Beastie Boys) was made for Egotrip in 1999.

They should easily be up there.
Maybe not the 50 best 'lyricists' or whatever gay term they use nowadays, but when it comes to MCing, they're some of the best ever.
Other MCs may be able to rap faster/with better breath control/more technically etc, but I would rather listen to the B-Boys than 99% of them.
MCing was originally about party rocking, right? Name MCs better than the boys at that.

I don't agree with that. I'm not going to say that they are each individually Top 10 artists, but Top 50? Easily.

you know what, the more i think about it, your right.
its the TOP 50 MC's, so its a rather large group and its the whole package as you say, emcee'ing in general, so they'd deffo earn a spot there.
but MCing USED to be just bout party rocking, theres a lot more to it. as artists there in my top 5 favourite ever, but wouldnt break probably the best 15 emcee's i ever heard.

Exactly.
Their lyrics are better than nearly any rapper I've ever heard.
THey're funnier than any other rappers.
They have more personality than most rappers.
I like their flows. Not as technical/mechanical as other rappers but a lot more charismatic. They change flow, intonation, etc. to make things more interesting.

Sort of depends on what you mean by 'best'.
Most skillful? No, they're not.
But a lot of 'skillful' MCs sound like shit. A lot of them.

I've never agreed with you more. At this stage in the game, Beastie Boys should be on any top 50 hip-hop artists of all time.
It's as plain as Tupac/ Biggie/ Jay-Z/ Rakim or anybody being in there.

They'd be in my lists for top 50 artists, groups, performers, and even bands, but I don't know if they'd come to mind as top 50 rappers/emcees. Maybe somewhere in the later 40s. Maybe. They're bigger than hip hop anyway.
I like The Beatles too, but I wouldn't think of them as the best vocalists, singers, or live performers or anything. But they made amazing songs, and the Beasties more or less fit in that same sort of category as music artists.

yeah I flicked through the book the other day, was dissappointed at the lack of beasties but not terribly surprised. We all know how much Kool Mo-Dee loves the beasties :p
Having said that though, the book said that he's going to release a '50 best rap groups' book soon or something like that. If Beasties don't make that, Kool Mo Dee has no taste.

I own the book. Melle Mel is number 1 and slick rick is beat out by mystikal and queen latifah. it's crap.
although like any self respecting mc, kool moe dee lists himself in the top ten (y)
