Okay I don't follow hockey at all but caught a lil blurb on Sportscenter today that the US picked our team. They all are NHL players as I'm sure many other country’s teams will be. So what the crap happens to the NHL season during the Olympics? Do they put it on hold or do the crap players get some ice time?

I seem to remember the WNBA being affected by the Olympics or national championships, I think the scrubs play while the stars are repping their countries....

They usually take a two week "Olympic Break".
From Feb 13th to the 27th, there are no NHL games scheduled.

The NHL shuts down for the Olympics. They've been doing this since Nagano in 1998, it allows the players in the NHL to play for their country's team.
I'd like to take the time to point out that Jeremy Roenick, the 3rd all time scorer in American hockey history, is not on the team. I predict a solid 6th place for the Americans.

Yeah the American team is kinda weak. Goaltenders aren't anything special, and that's a big aspect of International Hockey.

None of them are particularly awsome.
DiPietro has done the International things before, but when it comes down to a shootout, even I could deke him to the right and go top shelf on him. Every time. The American (and Canadian goalies to a much lesser extent) blow chunks in the shootout.
Also, not putting Roenick on was a big mistake.

Ricky D is 3-2 in SHootouts so far this season, including a victory that went 9 rounds, so it's not like he's a matador when it comes to the shootout.

I agree completely, no one deserves it more, except perhaps Mike Modano.
Chelios has represented the USA 4 times at the Olympics.
