Reason its way out of RELYING on the belief of a "man in the sky."
There is no way to reason out the non-existence of a god, because omnipotence by its very definition defies natural logic.
And yes, there is hope for your nation yet, much in the same way as there was hope that Teri Schiavo would make a full recovery before they turned the machines off...

Baha, I could not take him serious with that hat. He still thinks it's 1925.....
"Behe contends that evolution cannot fully explain the biological complexities of life — such as the immune system and blood clotting —"
Maybe he should have gone to college rather than getting his degree of the 'net'.

Your optimism is positively contagious.
But what's strange is, I actually agree with you.
I think we are pretty much fucked.
More important than this decision is the public reaction to it.
Seeing that we'll be able to truly gauge public opinion and thus our level of Fucked-ness.

NOT IN OUR PUBLICS SCHOOLS!
Flanders: [over PA] Well, cockly-doodly-doo, little buddies. Let's thank the Lord for another beautiful school day.
Superintendant Chalmers: "Thank the Lor -- thank the Lord? That sounded like a prayer. A prayer. A prayer in a public school! God has no place within these walls! Just like facts have no place within organized religion!
Yet again, Simpsons can be applied to any situation. Pat Robertson is going to smite Pennsylvania. Again. Oh noes. :(

In case you feel like reading the actual opinion (http://www.pamd.uscourts.gov/kitzmiller/kitzmiller_342.pdf) -- it's really long, but it has a lot of info, including a history of the Intelligent Design movement. I'm not even 1/4 of the way through reading it yet. :o

Court documents tend to be pdfs. Federal court has all kinds of rules about electronic filing and they insist on certain formats but my secretary understands it better than I do. :)
When a document leaves my office, it becomes a pdf. It's our computer people who insist on that. I thought it was so that people could see what I wrote, but not see the history of the documents and edits I made. They just don't want me sending someone a copy of my actual word document. It doesn't have to be a pdf to do that, but it's how my office does it. I don't know.

They're annoying.
The default 'hand' icon is useless and the clicking option is subpard. I don't know how you can design a bad text UI, but they did.
They take forever to load, frequently crash my browser, are annoying as hell to scroll through, are difficult to read because you cant click anywhere on the screen to hold your place, 1/4th of the screen area is taken up with superflous formatting garbage and they are inferior to basic type in just about any case.
My question is WHY use them? Simple text works better.
My main problem is scrolling; it takes FOREVER to scroll through those pieces of shit because each page has to load individually. It's asinine.
The PDF file itself takes 10 seconds to load, compared to less than 1 on a webpage containing the same amount of text.
The only possible advantage I can see is in printing. At the very least give us both options.
It's like taking all your textfiles and saving them as bitmaps or some other annoying picture format; why?
Just use plain text like everyone else.

That's a useful feature of PDFs, I'll admit, but wouldn't those rules, presumably about safety and security, be just as easily maintained by encrypted text?
'Electronic filing' is not the same as releasing something to be read publically either.
File it in PDF but release it in simple text.

Well, I wouldn't use a Word document either, but whatever.
PDFs do have uses, but publishing something to be read online isn't on of them.
Reading something long on a computer already sucks, PDFs just make it worse.
