This is a touchy subject for most animal lovers, and I myself have some unconventional views. Here's what i think...I think they should stop producing new fur coat/clothing products. We really don't need to do it anymore, with all the synthenic alternatives we have that are just as good. So from this day on we stop with the fur. However, I don't think we should discourage people from wearing OLD/vintage fur, fur that's already in circulation. I mean seriously there's enough fur coats floating around out there to keep people happy and warm. I feel like we killed those poor animals for a reason (ideally to keep someone warm in subzero climates not cover some rich LA bitches ass) and if we throw out all that fur it's a waste and those animals truly died for nothing. I really think if you are gonna kill an animal you have to respect it the way the american indians did and use as much of it as you can, leave nothing to waste. I'm just saying it seems wasteful to be to not use fur that has already been produced.

I have a mink stole from the 1930's that I only wear with costumes. I was the big bad wolf one year and I wore it to work, not thinking much of it especially since it's obvious that this was not a new peice of clothing and I was the BAD wolf. Anyway a co-worker seriously looked down on me for wearing it even as a costume. ya know whatever, this same co-worker wore leather withou any issue. I do have some peices of clothing that has fur trim...none of them are new coats all of them are at least 20 or more years old. I don't have an issue with wearing them..but I wouldn't ever go out and buy myself a brand new fur coat. I don't like the farming of animals for fur or killing endangerde species for fur, but I do kinda feel what's done is done.We can stop doing it, but we can't deny that we've done it, and having fur around is a good thing as far as our history and education about how we have made that choice.

any thoughts?

If I was a polar bear or an osrtich I would rather be covered in red paint and burned than drapped over p diddys shoulders.

Fashion fur sucks, and it's not a justifiable reason to kill an animal. Defining fashion fur is a little harder though. But basically if you don't live in or spend time in an area that reaches 30 degrees or below and you own fur then it's fashion.

But like I said, there's no need to continue to produce fur, fashion or otherwise. There is plenty of it in circulation all ready.

Is fashion a good reason to use the fur from an animal that is already dead?

Is fashion a good reason to kill a dangerous pest that kills native animals?

#1-you mean like road kill? seriously though, fashion doesn't seem like a good reason in anycase. But I have been to iceland in November and if someone said here's a fashionable fur coat, why don't you wear it, I woulds not hesitate to put it on to keep me warm. there is noththing so chilling as wind in iceland and fur would definetly help block it.

#2-I'm not sure. the animals that we may consider pests are sometimes nessary to the enviroment to keep native animal population in check. But if the pest isn't native to the area and it is wiping out wildlife that is and it needs to be killed to be controlled , then why not make use of the fur, the meat and everything you can from that animal?

I saw something on TV last week about fur. Because it's not true that cheep clothes with e.g. fur collars are allways made of fake fur. It's mostly dog- or cat- fur from china. Dogs are a very poplular meal over there and they don't have many dogs or cats as pets. And because they breed and slay those animals anyway they sell the fur very cheep, because otherwise they would throw it away. Those animals suffer very badly because they are kept in very small cages for many days before they are sold to be slaughtered. And they are often not even dead when they pull off their skin.

So, don't be sure about your "fake-fur" just because your jacket or whatever was so cheap.

But at least for H&M I checked the peta-website which said, that they never used real fur for clothing! (y) (y) (y)

P.S.: Excuse my bad English...
