So i was watching that show House last week (great show...love it)...and the main dude, Dr. House, was wearing a nice leather jacket in one scene...a biker jacket. nothing insane...straight black leather with red stripes around the arms...
similar example: http://www.biker-leather.com/graphics/leather_MJ779_4.jpg
i dig it man....i want that jacket. i dig the look.
problem: i don't ride motorcycles. i hate motor cycles for safety reasons (my father lost his leg, etc)...
but i like the jacket.
so is it completely impossible to wear that jacket without being a complete poser?
again, i do not want to make some fake impression that i do ride bikes...i don't want one of those super colorful neon jackets or any of that shit...
just a leather jacket with the stripes...
is this an impossible dream?
if your worried about being a poser... it's too late

I'm not sure why you'd care whether other people think you are a 'poser' or not, seeing as how you're not, like, in high school anymore. if you like it and you want it and you can afford it, have it. It's a practical item you will use. It's not like putting a rack on top of your car and driving around with skis on it when you don't ski or something.
I'm just sayin'... don't worry if people think this or that.
It's a cool jacket if you like it, wear it.

You don't have to have a motorcycle to wear that jacket, you fruity bastard.

yeah, i just don't want someone to come up to me and ask "so where's you bike dude? what kinda bike to you ride?"
and then i'll be like..."umm..i don't ride....it's just a leather jacket...that's all".

so apparently i am putting alot more thought into the possible "poser effect" than the people who would see me in it, huh?
If you like it...buy it. Why do you care what people think of you?
Think of all the people that wear DC shoes that don't bike or skate. Or all the people sporting basketball shoes that don't play. I just don't understand why people care about stuff like that.

1. I love House as well...great show, good taste
2. The jacket is hot....get it. If you love it and are confident you can pull it off.

i actually have some skater clothes and hats and i don't skate...but that's cause a local skate shop used to sponsor me when i Djed...and i used to play at thier skate shows and shit...so they gave me tons of free shit.
and i wear those shirts and hats without giving a fuck.

That sort of jacket doesn't scream biker poser to me at all! In fact, it doesn't really say biker to me at all.
Beware that there is a modified version of that jacket for women (without the stripe). I don't know if this is true all over the US or just in the Minneapolis area, but it is THE uniform for suburban housewives out for a night on the town. ;)
There is no equivalent for men, so you're safe if you should travel to Minneapolis.
P.S. I have loved Hugh Laurie forever.

Honestly, if you have to ask someone if you should or shouldn't buy something based off not wanting to look like a "poseur", then you have bigger problems than potentially looking like a poseur.
Wear whatever you want. If you think you look good in it, that's all that matters.

Reconciling your likes and dislikes with the reality of your existence is so complicated. And if what you like doesn't constantly directly represent what you are in an easily recognizable way by the public, it has so much bearing on your social standing. Liking shit is fucking EXAUSTING!! That's why people get so into hating everything...it's gravy.

if i saw you in that jacket, i'd ask you what kind of bike you rode and so wouldn't a lot of people who actually knew what motorcycle jackets looked like. it is a nice jacket. i like it myself but i don't think i'd where it for the simple fact that i don't own a motorcycle. but i think you'd be able to get away with it most of the time. just not around cycle jocks.
