I was at a funeral earlier this week and was shocked at the piss poor selection of music that had been chosen.
What songs would you have to play at your own?

Dust in the Wind by Kansas of course.
Anybody who doesn't play that deserves to go to hell.

I have told my wife and other friends, that when I die, I want "GRATITUDE" by the beastie boys to be played at the funeral.....

Yes. Anybody that doesn't play the most trite and obvious funeral song next to 'Freebird' should definitely go to hell.

No, the MOST trite and obvious is that shitty "I will remember you" crap. That and that shitty song about heaven that you only hear at funerals, "I"ll see you in heaven' or some shit.
Stairway to Heaven's pretty obvious too.
But of course when they play Dust in the Wind at my funeral, it's gonna be the Z-Trip mix.
Dirt in the Ground by Tom Waits would be a good one though.

God, imagine having Beastie Boys music at your own funeral. Embarrassing, even for the dead.

I want David Bowie's Heroes played at mine.
When my friend's oldest son died Iggy's Lust for life was played several times, because (ironically) it was his favourite song. Also some Simon and Garfunkel songs are now for eternally etched to my mind from his funeral, because he'd been listening to them an awful lot that summer (a bit strange for a 16 year old gothpunk).

I won't have any say so in the matter but I'm willing to speculate that it's a coin toss between
Kool & the Gangs ~ Celebration
or worse yet
Madonna ~ Holiday
Though I'd like to make a request for "I'll Fly Away" as I'm blasted off into space. Either that or Rocket Man

I'd like Jeff Buckley's version Hallelujia.
Time for Livin' was a pretty bitchin' choice too.

when my friend found out he was dying he got his girlfriend to play march of the stormtrooper when he was being carried out at the funeral. i swear to fuck we couldn't stop smiling thru the tears. also, he made sure he was buried in his cut-off combats and napalm death scum t-shirt. cheezy r.i.p. x
another friends funeral had you'll never walk alone played at it. i'd done well to hold back until then. then i fell apart. rab r.i.p. x

forgot to say what i'd like played. was gonna say many rivers to cross by jimmy cliff or something's gotta give by the beasties but think i'd rather have something a bit cheerier. maybe dazed and confused by led zep. or irish rover by the pogues & the dubliners.
