Has anyone on this board ever taken a self defense class? If so, did you find it worth while or was it a waste of time?
Hummm...:( why don't dudes just get the fkn point when we say 'no' and back the fuck off!

it's not as hard as some like to think, the only hard thing is staying focused all the time.

Yeah, I find it pretty hard to get motivated haha. But with something like this I think I could stay pretty focused, if it helps me in the long run.

I need to find some self-defence class where it involves heavy use of elbow blows. I have winded people with these freakishly sharp babies.

My dad found a book in a cupboard yesterday. It's some 1930s hobby guide, and one of the sections is about self defence. It shows all sorts of bizarre situations, such as how to get rid of people who are clinging to the side of old fashioned cars, complete with photos. Fantastic!

once you've learned any kind of self defense, it'll stay in the back off your mind all the time. are you and your buddy thinking about joining one of those self defense classes just for women?

Yeah, most probably. I didn't really know there were classes for both genders? Not being sexist, but I just didn't know that guys would need much self defence education...Thought they'd relate more to boxing or karate :p

I was thinking karate...but then I'm not really into 'fighting', I don't see much point in beating the shit out of one another, resolves no issues in my opinion. Self defense would be the way to go if I ever needed to defend myself or my gf for that matter. But I guess I could take up karate just to have a few techniques up my sleeve incase I get into a major fight one day. The only time I'd get into a serious fight would be if someone touched my gf or my Mum in a way that is inappropriate...I'd go hectic. Otherwise, I think talking it out as mature adults is best.

You don't really have to beat the shit out of them though, you just have to disable them. I'm not sure karate is the best for disabling.....lemme check this.

Koo Self Defense created by Master Roger Koo in 1992 with a unique out of the box approach for a martial art and self defense training system promoting health, extreme physical fitness and devastating power for street self defense.
Try that one out, if you can find it, or just read up on the technquices (spelling?) on a website.
As for Tae Kwan Do, definately check it out. Jujitsu is pretty good as well, I have a few friends who participated in a Brazillian Jujitsu class a while back.

i did take taiki do when i was like 12-13,and i love it!I was doing competition and kick boys ass!I was working on the intimidation technic too:you look nasty and brave, that trow them off their feets sometime.I mean if you look innocent and a victim, its not good ,,but if you look full of rage and confident, that could do the trick!!
I think you should learn some kung fu!!that will do it!

I've noticed that most women seem to have freakishly sharp elbows. Knees and elbows are really useful in situations like that, and fingers and teeth too. You can do someone some serious damage with a little imagination.

learn to punch. my dad taught me when i was in grade three. thrust your hand out straight, and you should do some damage, or at least cause a nosebleed.
weapons can easily be used on you rather by you. there are some basic self defense moves that can help you.

i do karate and it helped at a party once, when sum drunk 16yr old started touching my friend, i kicked him in the balls which got him pissed off and then i punched him in the face hard enough to let me and my friend get out of there. without karate that punch wouldnt have worked, so it came in real handy.
