I'm thinking it over, but Beasties are going to come in first overall.

I think it probably needs categories, like best arena, best non-arena, worst overall, best and worst crowd, most disappointing, most surprising, and best and worst opening acts. What do you think?

Bboys are my fav concert ive ever seen, but that was 04, not 05...for 05 my fav shows that i saw were....

U2
White Stripes
Rob Zombie

Green Day were awesome, but it was the exact same show as 04, same dialouge and setlist.

Biggest suprise: Transplants. I wasnt expecting much from them, but their show fuckin rocked.

Most Dissapointing: The Killers, so much money for a shitty ass 65min set, never again.

I saw Beasties three times in 2005. :)

This is what the guy in my newspaper said:

1. U2, Sept. 23, Target Center. Great passion, great humanity, great light show, great singer, great guitarist, great band. When I listen to the songs on the latest CD, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," they don't sound as awesome as they did that night. I saw them in Chicago a few nights before and they sounded fairly rough--and it cost a fortune--but the friend I went with had a religious experience

2. Green Day, Sept. 16, Xcel Energy Center. I've seen this tour three times live (and a fourth time on DVD) and, despite the pat lines and big-gig gestures, I'm still amazed by the power and passion of this performance by Billie Joe Armstrong and the boys.

3. Gretchen Wilson, Nov. 27, Xcel. Despite the gratuitous and incongruous pyrotechnics she shared with Big & Rich, Wilson slayed with her killer voice, killer country classics and killer covers of Billie Holiday and Led Zeppelin.

4. The Rolling Stones, Sept. 6, Xcel. Short on stage frills and long on intimacy and energy, this was easily Mick Jagger's best, freshest and most consistent concert in the Twin Cities -- and at age 62, no less. This isn't saying much. They don't play in the Twin Cities on every tour. They sucked ass and played at the shitty dome on Steel Wheels. They haven't done a good concert here since Tattoo You tour. I got hammered because it was the only way to stomach the scary crowd in attendance. Keith was disappointing despite my low expectations.

5. Keith Urban, Sept. 24, Xcel. His songs may not be outstanding but his instincts as an entertainer were. A sweet voice, an expressive guitar and fabulous show-biz instincts. He's easily the most well-rounded talent in Nashville since Vince Gill.

6. Aerosmith, Dec. 6, Target Center. Joe Perry's guitar sparked the rock, blues and ballads, but wildman Steven Tyler, though he's been more physical in the past, connected with the crowd as few superstars even try to do.Why do they always play Target Center? I've seen exactly one good show there.

7. Kenny Chesney, March 26, Xcel. On his 37th birthday, the country stud seduced with sincerity, sentimentality and a party attitude. Opening act Gretchen Wilson sang "Happy Birthday" Marilyn Monroe-style while toasting this pint-sized superstar with a margarita, served in a glass with a foot-wide mouth. Party on!

8. Foo Fighters and Weezer, Oct. 2, Xcel. Weezer's Rivers Cuomo was extremely outgoing (for him) and Foo's Dave Grohl was in hyper mode. Alt-rock from the '90s was never so much fun in an arena.Weezer was surprisingly good. Everyone says Rivers was better than usual. Weezer got bad reviews earlier in the year at a small venue. Foo Fighters were disappointing. I adore Dave but he was lame and seemed really fake.

9. Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, July 12, Midway Stadium. OK, not an arena but just as big. Dylan's singing was more nuanced, focused and clearer (well, for a nicotine-stained froggy throat) than it has been in years. His revamped band was the most versatile, most musical and best group he's had in ages. In a word, Dylan was smokin', even if Willie was on autopilot.I was out of town and apparently missed the only good Dylan show here in my lifetime. Fuck.

10. Elton John, April 29, Target Center. Accompanied by a small Atlanta gospel choir, he got Southern and soulful, giving his most impassioned Twin Cities performance since his 1979 solo show.

Honorable mention: Paul McCartney, Oct. 26; Snoop Dogg and the Game; April 21, Target Center; Gwen Stefani, Nov. 14, Xcel.my friend said Gwen didn't suck nearly as bad as she expected but she was glad her work paid for the ticket

Here's the deal: the best arena show I [documad] saw in 2005 was Coldplay. Yep. I saw them the same week as U2 and Beck too. I'm not a fan of Coldplays albums, but Chris Martin seems like a genuine music spaz. he's either a much better actor than his wife, or he really gets off on performing live. And they whispered to each other and changed up the setlist at an arena show.

NIN was second best.

Nine Inch Nails was good. QOTSA sucked balls though.

Ghostface was terrible live. Cage was good.

Aesop/Lif were booty, which is suprising because separately they're usually pretty great.

THe only shows I went to this year were The Killers and Paul Weller. Weller was amazing, The Killers show sucked. I don't even remember anything about their set, it was the audience that made me miserable. I've never wanted my money back so badly after a show, and I didn't even pay for that one. As for opening acts, at both shows the openers were pretty unremarkable, but The Killer's opener was by far worse. What the hell were they thinking getting a bluegrass band to open up for them?

i am thinking to what i actually saw in the past year. i think just 2 shows sadly...unless im forgetting something early...

but the warped tour was allright, but its setup gives you nothing spectacular. i saw who i wanted to, and some people i didnt really care about

and i just recently saw the international noise conspitracy and circa survive. i really loved the inc set, it was really exciting. and prompted me to buy the album afterward. circa was allright, but nothing i would care to get into any more.

Best gigs in 2005: Downset, Audioslave, Isis, Unsane and Blues Explosion.

Most disappointing: Trail Of Dead, opening for Audioslave, way too short and the sound was awful...too bad, I really was waiting for that one :(

the futureheads were great in the barrowlands in glasgow.
clutch were fantastic in the cathouse even though the venue sucks ass and their tight ass fuck label wouldn't pay for them to bring their own p.a. and sound engineer. bawbags.
then there were loads of great acts playing at the nightmare before christmas ATP in cambers sands. i.e. battles, high on fire, hella, beans & holy fuck, mastodon, the fucking champs, the locust, dalek, subtitle, acid mothers temple. what a weekend!

You don't like the bravery? They are a little derivative, but they still capture the 80s synth vibe alright.

I had a great time at Leeds this year but some of the bands were shite.

Razorlight for example had me looking at my watch every 5 minutes wondering when the hell they would bugger off. Snoozeville.

and The Charlatans looked as if they really wished they were somewhere else - which was disappointing because i was looking forward to seeing 'em.

oh and i had to endure the arse that is Marilyn Manson because my friend thinks he is some demi-god.

Highlights for me were Foo Fighters, Pixies and QOTSA (y)

yeah manson is lame, but i did watch from the back just to see the show. i missed the charlatans and razorlight, but did want to see the charlatans. i saw the futureheads :D they were good, and i agree on QOTSA. josh was trippin of his head :D. blood brothers were pretty good if you liek that kinda think, i hated 'em till i saw em live. kings of leon were really good aswell, i thought, it was cool cause they were playing in the red-ish twilight.
