Okay, so I don't understand what myspace is. I see the name thrown around all over the place but when I go to the site it looks like a dating and hookup site. It says you can search for people in your area for dating or whatever. I thought it was more like livejournal. So... wtf?

Maybe I wanna set up a myspace.

Is it more popular than livejournal? I have a livejournal but I never write in it.

Peoople have logged on from my computer before and looked at it.

I found it all quite sad.

It's like "high school" for kids that were/are dorks in high school and couldn't/can't have the full experience naturally.

it's actually a good way for bands to display their music and to have club owners hear the music and decide to book the band without having to wait for u.s. postal service to deliver a press kit...

I use MySpace for e-mail. I never bothered to jump onto the Myspace bandwagon until I moved cross country....leaving all my friends behind. I just use it to keep in touch with them. It also seems to be a good place to spread the word about parties/get togethers.

At first its all fun and you meet people and maybe even date and then it finally becomes just a place to check your email once a week and see what comments people are leaving you.

I have a livejournal also, but mostly because the blog filtering things on myspace are wacked and I can't figure out how to use them. I've found quite a few people that I've gotten back in touch with so that's neat. There's also a bunch of comedians that I like that have myspace pages (I won't go into if I know it's actually them or not, I'm not an idiot).

I have noticed though since I switched my status from "in a relationship" to "single", I always get random emails from guys in the middle of the night being like "hey cutee waz up?". Pretty annoying, but whatever.

The thing i use it most for is just to post stupid pics or comments on my friends pages hah.

Myself, I've noticed that when I've switched my own status from "single" to "in a relationship" I've got random generic sounding e-mails from girls (either in my area or somewhere else) that generally say the same thing ("I saw your profile and I really liked it and I was thinking we could meet up, etc.") and leave an e-mail for you to contact them. Once you dig a little deeper, you soon learn they're hawking some kind of service like AdultFriendFinder or some crap.

Such harrassment.

I use orkut for my real friends and people I really know in person and I only use myspace because of this board. There's no one there that I have met already. Not a single Brazilian person. Maybe Junker will join it someday. I don't know. Although MySpace is much better than orkut, I like orkut, because I don't know there's something about it...I got to know so manycrazy things there. I find people I've met in high school or even in the kindergarden. It's pretty cool!:p

But, in the end, isn't that what everyone is seeking? People, in general, are fascinated by themselves.

maybe I'm being surreptitious

*insert emoticon narrowing its eyes suspiciously here*Are you using the dictionary.com definition or Oxford English?

hpdrifter
12-30-2005, 04:52 PM
My own definition:

surreptitious: adjective. something that is "under the radar" so to speak. You know, like when you try to do something without someone noticing or whatever (well that would be an adverb)

adverb: I surreptitiously stole my co worker's favorite pen.

adjective: My bra strap is surreptitious (it doesn't work as well as an adjective).

Being surreptitious is what's kept James Bond alive all these years.

I found a myspace group for the theatre department in my old high school and it freaked the fuck outta me. I don't know why. I was just glad that there was no myspace or text messages or cell phone in high school, it was, in general, more real communication. Of course there was AIM and stuff but nobody really used it too much. Gah I hate thinking of the future with stuff like this it just gives me the heebie jeebies.

Why is it so sad? I use it to keep in touch with everyone because I hate bantering on the phone all the time, using up all my minutes. Not everyone uses it as a self selling dating teen sight. Marsdaddy is just a crotchety old man who dismissed things as being pathetic when he knows he's too old of a dog to catch on to new tricks.
