Just find it in yer heart to take this fellow buddy ole pal to the screening as your guest. aww come on... will ya?

awww. thanks miraminee! that approach doesnt always work for dudes... i dunno. i would be the perfect guest for someone whose friends aren't into the bboys, i'm shiny, well groomed and well behaved... and house trained!

you're right though, i am one of those people you're talking about. i've been into them since i was 8 and got a copy of lti. i wore that tape out. i remember listening to brass monkey on my walkman really loud at school and some kids asking me why i was listening to salsa music (the horns). *sigh* :(

Do I have to give you a pep talk too?

"Fancy" is not a word that should be used to describe anything related to the Beastie Boys. They are not fancy men.

What makes you think the screening is going to be fancy?

well, someone on here said that u have 2 dress fancy in order 2 attend the screening. i know for a fact i cant go. :(

When Laver and I went to the secret session in Chicago, there was this girl who was determined to get into it. She convinced Laver to give her a clue about what venue it was at and then she showed up at the door of the place. I don't know to whom she spoke to get inside, but she managed her way in.

And she made it on the shoutout video and backstage after the show too.

Where there is a will there is a way! Good Luck!

Yup, i begged. Yer damn skippy I did and it all worked out. I'm the guy who's listened to the bboys since I was 8 in 1986 - blasting 'Brass Monkey' on my walkman to the dismay of my school mates. I've got all the albums, bootlegs and all that. I've been to a bunch of their concerts with friends and had incredible experiences every time. The Bboys got me into music, playing guitar and bass. I had a bunch of bands and was influenced by them in so many ways - I feel like i grew up with them. Kids in school used to call me the 4th Bboy... i didn't mind.

Ok, so this reallly cool dude, who uses the screen name Dirty Pete, took pity on my pathetic begging ass and contacted me on Thursday about this thread. He and his bro are huge fans but his brother couldnt make it - so he offered to take me. He wouldn't take anything in return and sympathized with me so we arranged to meet at the place last night... how fucking great is this dude?!?!?!

I got there about 15 minutes before the screening time and there were already a bunch of people inside. I'm having a smoke outside next to the door waiting for DP when i looked up and saw Yauch walking up with his lady and daughter. I said, "Hey... you made it! I didn't think you'd come..." He sort of shrugged his shoulders, smiled and said something like, "Yup I made it!" I was the first guest he saw, so he might've been a little tense not knowing how people would act? maybe he was nervous about showing the film for the first time? I thought I'd be all excited with sweaty palms and a racing heart but i surprised myself at how laid back everything was. It felt like I'd already met him or something because it was really casual. I said something like, "i'm so glad to see you here and thanks you doing this for your fans - this is incredible" He smiled and nodded his head and said "thanks man". He went inside and I finished my smoke.

I walked in the lobby and expected that maybe he'd make himself scarce, I'd left some papers on a table before so i went to get them. When I turn over, there he was getting a soda from the concession stand right next to me again. I took my stuff and walked away knowing that there're a lot of other people who'd want to say hi. Just then DP came in, we did our introductions. He had run a pretty far distance because he thought he'd be late. We talked for a sec a few feet away from Yauch, I said to DP, "Psst... look who's right next to you..." He turned and I laughed. He looked back at me and was like, "... *blink* *blink* not bad!' we left that room and had a drink at the bar.

Maybe five minutes later the staff asked everyone to have a seat. Everyone went into the screening room, took seats and chatted for a bit. I ended up sitting right in front of YoungRemy and his lady. There were about 6 reserved seats, so I thought maybe Adam H and Mike would be joining the group. Someone walked up and gave short a "very unsexy" introduction to Yauch. Adam walked up with his yellow backpack still on thanked all the shooters for their work, jokingly scolded someone who's cell was ringing, and I think he just said "Enjoy and took his seat in the audience. I thought it was pretty cool that he sat in the middle of the theater with the fans. The film started.

As a review of AIFST... it really is all it's cracked up to be. This is definitive Beastie Boys. If you've never heard of them and didn't know anything about them, this film geniously encapsulates the Beastie Boys concert experience. Once the concert gets underway, it's a little 'different' and takes a little getting used to. Its not what you'd expect when you think 'concert documentary' because at first the footage seems raw, but after an initial adjustment you get used to the texture of the visuals and you begin to understand exactly why this documentary is so brilliant - you really feel like you're there at the concert. I thought that there'd be lots of cheering and clapping but people in the audience were a little reserved. I think it was probably because Yauch was in the audience and people wanted to behave, we're conditioned to keep quiet in movie theaters. However, I turned around and saw mad heads bobbing to the music. I didn't want to but I had to use the bathroom and I think I kicked someone's camera on my wayup the aisle, i'm glad i didn't bust my ass right there in the middle of the room. When it was over, people cheered, whistled, whooped and clapped. Yauch thanked everyone again... and the audience staggeredly called out "no thank YOU!" right back. He asked everyone to go out to the "Sexy Lounge" for a little talk. And that was that - as we walked out a coupla guys with cameras asked people what they thought as they walked out.

Leaving the room, Yauch was waiting outside for everyone to file out. I stopped and tried to get my digital camera to work - fucking piece of shit ate up my batteries in like 5 minutes I'd had it on! I asked for one autograph made out to my sister (another big ole fan) and a pic with him. Actually it was funny because I'd had camera issues we had like 5 attempts at it, one standing next to eachother, then another one shaking hands and finally before I got a pic with a working camera Yauch goes... "like this" and gave me one of those link your thumbs together with elbows bend like, "yo" handshakes, i think Remy got that pic for me.

I was standing next to him for a while waiting for DP... I could've talked more to him, but I sorta felt like, what can I really ask? Everyone and their mother probably asks the same questions. And everything I'd want to know has probably already been said in interviews, so I just thought it was enough for me to say "thank you, the film was incredible" I asked him when it would be released in theaters, he was like, "umm i dunno, march 30 I think?... sometime around then. I said something like "That's gonna make an great birthday present to myself! It's great meeting you, Adam - thanks so much for doing this."

People went into the bar, Yauch followed. I stuck around for a bit - it felt so early! - had a couple of drinks and chatted with people for a bit. Yauch was leaving when I was on my way to the bathroom, people were saying goodnight - I kind of waved and said good night too, walked by and that was that.

So there you have it. I'm glad I was more sober and three years older from when I met Adam H - sober is the key thing. It was much better having this be a laid back experience where I felt more like "see ya around, man!" than "Oh my lordry lord it's that guy who's in the soundtrack of my youth! Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!!!" I've met lots of celebs but the only ones I'd really care to talk with would be the Beatles and the Beasties. I would've liked to have chatted a little more, but there were so many people there wanting the same thing... I'm satisfied. If I ever met them again, I'd feel the same as this time - I'm not a big autograph-getter type, not big on idolizing celebrities, if i did i'd probably want to chat about their songwriting process, when do they do it, how they like to write, where they like to write, things like that.

Thanks again Yauch - for all the 20 years of music that accompanied and enlightened me through so much, the privelege to spend a few minutes and this unbelievable documentary I hope with bring them to redefine the medium and bring them to new levels creatively. Cheers to you - to the future of Oscilloscope.

last but never least: THANK YOU MIRAMINEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
