The rerun of the American Experience biography reminded me.
Sometimes I think I'm the only one who didn't drink the kool-aid.

I've said it before, but I'm proud to be from the only state that didn't vote to reelect him. :)

He was the start of the offical dumbing down of American politics, he's also how the Republicans figured out they could have it all with a little patience and planning.

Not to mention, the dumbing down of conservatism in particular. Conservatism with brains went out the window with Reagan (notable exception: samiam).

gmsisko is living proof of this. ;)

It seems like with Reagan the general public just...gave up. Maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's just who writes history...but it seems Americans used to be very involved in their government and who was in charge.

They could stand behind their president, not because it's in the redneck patriots handbook, but because the geniunely felt what their leaders were doing was the best thing for them.

Now it seems like if you don't like the direction our leadership takes us in the redneck patriots are quick to tell you to go to Canadia or that you aren't supporting the troops, or that you're inviting Saddam and Al Queda over to dinner.

He was awesome at saying something that had no substance but sounded kind of good. Then he became the model for that so that we will never have substance again. We will also never elect a leader who tells us the truth again.

When he died, I had to avoid TV for weeks because I got sick to my stomach at how he's perceived today. Also, I couldn't look at Nancy.

Hardly, he's a lying fuckwit. I know we are starved for decent rightwingers to debate with, but Sam is still barely more than a morsel. He's just a literate Gizmo. Nothing more, nothing less.

Where does one start with Ronald Reagan, his unabashed and total support of the Polish trade union federation (Solidarity) on the one hand, then his complete utter disdain on his own countrymen by firing all the air traffic controllers in the PATCO union....WTF? PATCO along with the Teamsters and many other AFL/CIO unions even supported his presidential bid.

He appealed to the American Cowboy, but it was the Cowboy he hated the most.

Reagan forgot a lot more than that.

He destroyed the mental institutions in California. Thanks for all of the homeless Ronald.

Thank you very much.

Reagan was good for optimism and a burning belief in what he saw as a vision for America...as for the specifics, well......next question....
