Very cool. Yesterday, all blue tag items were 99 cents. I got six shirts and three pairs of pants. Score!

I love thrift stores.
When I visit other towns, I always have to check out the local thrift store.
Where else can you buy a complete ensemble for less than $5-10?

No kidding.
Plus, this particular place is right down the road from both our snazzy boutique strip AND the boutique mall, so they very often have items donated that still have the tags on them; they're just from "last season" or whatever.
Perry Ellis, Polo, Tommy H, A & Fitch, Calvin Klein, and all that other stuff for less than a buck? I'm there.

Yay! -- another sale this weekend.
Two T-shirts (including a dorky, touristy Vancouver T), two thermal shirts, two sweaters, a flannel pullover jacket, and five button down or casual dress shirts for $22. (y)
Word.
I bought a new hat yesterday and a yellow striped shirt!

I meant to look for a new beanie. Oops.
Oddly enough, all three I have right now are ones that I found. True story.

the thrift store near me sucks when it comes to clothing
most of the stuff is just really old and the store is pretty much just covered with grandparents. i did find a couple of nice glasses there once for like 10 cents each though

I definitely know which ones around here are a waste.
We've got another used store a couple of blocks from this one that has more hip stuff, because they'll pay for good used clothes. Sometimes they've got deals, too, but the staff can be kind of uppity.
It always kills me when staff at places like used clothes stores or record stores are all attitude. I feel like saying, "Yeah, you're earning -- what? -- minimum wage? Yeah, you've earned that air of superiority."

.....and now I look like Hans Moleman.

Sorry, you mean drinking glasses but I still like to laugh at Hans. Speaking of drinking glasses. I got a coffee mug at Goodwill for 25 cents. It is a Kings Dominion mug with Mort on the front. I liked the fact it said Mort was the owner of the mug.

Yeah, I love shit like that. (y)
I've found collectible stuff that I turn around and sell at a good profit. Blue vinyl Beatles 1967-70 LP, Apple label Band on the Run.... I paid 75 cents for them, went down the street, and traded them for fifty dollars worth of credit at the record store. (y)

I'm not sure if that's the same story, but there's a documentary that just came out about a woman who might have a Pollack, but it's being disputed -- perhaps in part because she's not connected to the art community -- and the thrust of the story is how much the art market determines what is valuable and what's not, perhaps even regardless of quality, etc.

Yes, it is one in the same. I saw her on 60 minutes. Most art dealers think it is real with some disputing it's authenticity. I think she has the real deal.

I think they found that some of the paint on that didn't exist until after Pollack died, yet the board it's painted on is about the right age. So maybe it was something Pollack had started and someone later tried to finish to make it look more authentic or something.
......a Canadian named Peter Paul Biro, finds a finger print on the back of the canvas, which he later matches to a paint can in Pollock’s East Hampton studio.........

That would be an interesting companion piece to the Orson Welles movie F for Fake. It's about a forger who got away with it for years, selling off works as Renoirs, Monets, Picassos... sold 'em to museums, as well. Experts agree they might not have uncovered all the frauds, and some say world-class museums still proudly, unknowingly, exhibit the fakes.

When it comes to second hand clothing it's mainly charity shops here. They are so popular, most main high streets have about five. Oxfams can be found even in expensive areas.
I like the fact there's no major deciding to be done. I can buy something, decide later I don't want it then give it back to them, and all it cost me was 20p or something stupid.
I often let my daughter get dodgy 70's cocktail dresses, and old women's blouses, and she cuts them up and sews them together, sticks a few sequins on and wears them around the house.
Only the house.

That's cool.
Yeah, I have no real problem taking a chance. I rarely rarely ever try on something in the store. It's weird to think of clothing as "disposable," but there you have it.
In fact, the main reason I went to the store was because I didn't feel like doing laundry this weekend, but was out of clean shirts. :o

i once found a vintage young ones t shirt that i paid 2 bucks for.
When i would wear it all of a sudden ppl in their 30's would come running up and say 'holy shit!!!!!!' i had that t shirt when i was young!!!! how much u want for it???' these 2 dudes had a bidding war for it when i was in a bar, sold it off my back for $120!!!!!
that record story reminded me of my sorry story...
The record "Aenima" by Tool on vinyl regularly fetches anywhere between $500 and $700 on ebay. i was in my local record store once and i asked the dude if they had any tool records. the guy goes 'errr yeah, im pretty sure we still have a copy of aenima, hang on, ill just go get it, its out the back'
i nearly blew in my pants then and there. the guy looks around and comes back and says 'sorry dude, the other guy must have sold it yesterday. it was here just 2 days ago' and i muffled a silent scream. i asked how much it was selling for, and he said, 'u know, the usual, prob bout $30'
i walked out of the store sat in my car and sobbed for a good half hour.
edit - a good postscript to this story is that i managed to source the test pressing master of that album directly from the pressing plant. only 4 copies exist - its worth alot more than $700!!!!
