A guy like Mixmaster Mike will blow you away every time with his skills, no doubt. But he couldn't hope to create the soundscapes that Shadow or Krush are fuckin with.

I like the turntablists a ton, seen MMM twice, had a bunch of old DMC tapes and even fucked around with some Technics in the past (once upon a time), but musically I'm more into DJ Shadow.

It's like Roc Raida can make you go "OOOOOOOOOOOH SHIIIIIIIIIT!" when he cross-fades with his nose; whereas Shadow can make you think "How the fuck did we get here?". Or something like that.

It's like MMM is a performance artist who can't create an album to save his life, whereas Shadow can make a dope album and translate that into an unfeasibly solid performance.

It's from that episode of the simpsons where Millhouse is entering his name to play brainstorm as Thrillhouse but there wasn't enough room so it comes up as Thrillho.

Yea, I'm still confused how exactly he made endtroducing. I think it was made entirely of samples yet it sounds like he was running an entire orchestra. I guess that's why it's so great.

I gotta agree that MixMaster is pretty wicket as far as scratching goes, but I've bought 1 or 2 of his albums and, now they gather dust on the ol shelf.

Check out Kid Koala (http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/artist.php?id=8) . His output is pretty scant (much like DJ Shadow) but his stuff is hilarious. I've seen him twice and it's pretty sick how he works 3-4 decks at once. All his recorded stuff is straight from the vinyl, no computers or samplers or even sequencers as far as I've heard, just an old 8 Track recorder and some 1200's. THAT is quality.

Also check out X-Ecutioners, DJ Andy Smith (http://www.djandysmith.com/) (sick mixes for download) Q-Bert's always kinda fun to kick, and a bunch of crap like Coldcut offa the NinjaTune lable. Mr Scruff's a pimp. (y)

There ya go. I saw him do that mix, it was amazing.
He did all the DJ'in for Deltron and I think he did alot of work with Dan The Automator on other stuff. I'm not sure cuz they always use rediculous alias's.

I forgot one major dude. RJD2. He knows his shit, not so much as a dj, but as one of those all-round types. worthwhile investigation there.

Bangzilla is hella ill and Anti theft device is as well. Both are way ahead of their time. Shadows dope, but MMM has way harder, grimey-er beats with WAY more scratching. His shit is from planet Zectar, duh.

That's a real polite way of saying it sucks.

The scratching is to be expected, but the beats are rubbish. All the same drum sample on Bangzilla, just patterned differently. (n)
