if he wasnt an hasidic jew and instead a jamaican with long ass dreads would his music be able to stand by itself and gather attention? i dont think it would, take away the novelty of his appearance and the music just sounds like any other reggae artist with nothing special in terms of music.

Word. Its gimmicky. He is talented but he ain't all that. I saw him on Jimmy Kimmel and loved that song he did so I got the album, listend to it a handful of times and now am using it as a coaster (it was a burned cd).

I just got the cd....Thats wierd. I think hes pretty good. My only complaint is he seams to "over sing" songs and just put in random notes where it should just be the band playing. I do like the beatbox track though....And i didnt know what he looked like until this forum up, yikes, My vision of him was way off.

i hear ya on his image. it's always going to seem like a gimmick because it's so different, but he's definitely true with his music and his lyrics. he never uses his image for comedy. "beat box" is definitely one of the best tracks off his live album. i'm really curious to hear what his studio album is going to sound like...

i'm sure that he is true with his music but personally I dont think its quality shit or better than any other reggae artist doing similar shit. he may be good(although i'm not into it) but he doesnt excel. the attention he gets is on his image and not his work.

i bought "live at stubbs" and listened to it a few times when it first came out on the strength of the "king without a crown" track. i thought it was decent. i liked "warrior" the most. Then i got into a stage where i didn't really care about it and i haven't listened to it since. i'm still in that stage.
