so ok. my big christmas present this year was a Creative Zen Micro mp3 player. (http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=10795) i had asked for it just for the hell of it, not really thinking i'd get it. but my wonderful mom decided to get it for me. trouble is, it's out of stock everywhere. specifically, the pink one. i saw it at Fry's and fell in love with it - it's always been my favorite color. and it was absolutely beautiful. it's actually a more neon fuscia than the pink on the site. anyway, my mom searched high and low for it and couldn't find it anywhere, until she found a site that promised to have it soon. i decided to wait for the one i really wanted, and she's been diligently bugging them and asking them when they'll get it in. today they emailed her saying they still don't have an ETA on the one i want, but they do have it in white and light blue (as well as the hideous zen neeon. blech). so she asked me if i'd rather have it in a different color.

my dilemma is, steger really wants me to get a different color so he doesn't feel too femme if he wants to borrow it. on the other hand, screw him, i really, really, really want pink. i hate to sound like a brat about this, but i don't buy things for myself very often and don't ask for much, believe me. i haven't wanted something this badly since i was a little kid, and i almost don't want it if it's not the right one. also, if i were to get white, that'd look ipod-ish, and fuck ipods. anyway, what do you think i should do? give in and go for white or light blue, so i get it faster and steger's masculinity is intact; or wait for who-knows-how-long to get what i truly desire? i'm leaning toward the latter, but i feel like a heel for being so picky. :(

I don't know about the color thing but I will tell you this, be very careful with the headphone jack. Mine is so messed up now that I have to keep a bent staple in it to keep the sound from cutting out. :mad:

i know i know :( it's hard to explain though. i feel like i'll always be disappointed and wishing for something better if i don't get the one i originally wanted. i mean, i held it in my hand, and it was just...so right. the other colors are okay and stuff but damnit, this was destiny.

when i ordered mine online, i had ordered the red one. well they decided to not tell me that it was out of stock, and when i called 2 weeks later, asking where it was, they said it was still on 6 week backorder. welll thanks for nothing...i said "i'll take any color if you can ship it out as soon as possible". they told me they couldnt change the order, and i would have to reorder, therfor making me wait another week before the order is even processed...

so i cancelled my order and got it from another place which shipped it to me in 3-4 days.

my headpone jack is screwy too. creative can't figure it out i guess. i think i am going to ship it back to get it fixed, i can't deal with that shit

I just like the blue one better, so I think you should get that one. hot pink makes me think of paris hilton. but you should probably just get what you want. If people give steger shit about it, he just should wear a t-shirt that says "it's my girlfriend's" which could work for a lot of different things as well.

You're kidding, right? Pink might be the ideal colo(u)r but you'll really be just as happy with lavendar or fuschia. Deal with this now and avoid many more important disappointments in the future.

Hm yeah that's exactly what I don't like about my 20G zen, you can only get the white you see.

I'd wait for it if it's something you really want. It's only the 5th, so they're still in high demand. I reckon more will be in by mid Jan, TOPS.

I really can't stand the Zen Micro. The touch pad is fucked. Fucked. Scrolling without unintentionally pressing 2 other buttons is impossible. It's just not user-friendly. At least I-Pods are user-friendly, no matter how tempted people are to hate on them because they're trendy.

what? i think the zen'z buttons are way better than the stupid click wheel. i can't stand the ipod's interface. it's not that it's trendy, it's that i don't really see the appeal and i don't like the product. and the battery life turns to shit in 6 months, so what's the point of spending hundreds on a fashion accessory?

I understand the hatred of the ipod. We all have different needs re portable music. I even have non-ipod headphones because the ones that come with it hurt my ears.

I love both the original and current ipod and I've never had trouble with battery life (the third generation one was a mess though). My original ipod is still kicking, but I bought a new one last year because I wanted 40GB (I laughed at the salesguy when he suggested 60GB and I was a FOOL). I'd never recommend an ipod if you're not going to use it every day. If you want to leave your mp3 player in a drawer for weeks at a time, you should get one with real batteries.

I have to admit being kind of interested that the Zen has a problem with the headphone jack. There's always something with electronic devices. My old Sony discman used to freeze on me all the time--I returned that sucker 5-6 times.

when i ordered mine about a year ago, they were out of most colors. i think if i wanted one right away, i had to get white, black, or light green. i got the green and its not too bad. better than i thought it would be
