... still an acceptable way to express oneself? If you received one would you think it was cheesy or would it make you happy?

I make em more often than I receive em. but I like receiving em'
(i'm told I make really good ones. I'm especially good at themes)

I guess I thought there might be something more high tech thing that people do nowadays. I am always woefully behind the times on that shit.
It has a theme but I am so not good at coming up with a clever kicky little name.

well what's the theme? maybe we can help name it.

I'm too embarassed. If I can't think of something I'll just leave it untitled.

By the way, does anyone know of a good site where I can just buy one song at a time and download it? I don't want to have to install anything on my computer, does such a place exist?
I told you I'm totally out when it comes to this stuff.

ooooohhhhhhh it must be something sexy sexy if you're too embarased...either that or it's smoooooth jazz. :D
um I still pirate songs from the internet using Ares lite. it's freeeeeeeeeeeee! google it. (y) (but you would have to download the program...)
yeahwho
01-05-2006, 06:34 PM
Without the theme I'm not sure which site would be best. There's alot of free stuff on the interenet.
Is the theme songs about rubber?
Isn't it amazing how it only took the past year to make a wafer thin CD look clunky?
hpdrifter
01-05-2006, 06:40 PM
I don't want to pirate, I'm paranoid. And, keep it on the downlow, I'm using my work computer for this...
Does the theme really make a difference in terms of what website I visit? These websites have hundreds of thousands of songs, don't they?

My work computer will not allow me to download songs....Rhapsody is good and they have a 14 day free trial, but you do have to download their program.
I have the feeling this mix is "Songs about sucking up to my boss at Work".

Maybe this is a bad idea. I'll just go buy the freaking cds.

Quit being a pussy and tell us what this lil project is all about. Oh and FYI I still burn mix CDs and still give them to people. Anyway don't waste your money buying all the CDs you need that's for chumps. Don't you have any friends with a home PC?

when we first started talking, my boyfriend sent me a mix cd he had very obviously put a lot of effort into making. it had beautiful cover artwork, and every song was the most amazing love song - and they were mixed together perfectly, each song blending into the next. i'll never forget how completely, well, twitterpated i was when i received it. it said everything, and i would smile and smile like a teenager every time i listened to it. even now, a year and a half later, it's still one of the best gifts i've ever gotten.

Cover art is a good idea. The only mix CDs I really keep around came with clever cover art.

I went to school with a kid who gave his crush a mixtape of More Than Words and nothing but More Than Words for 45 minutes. That about ended that.
Mixtapes rock. Plug in a mic and shout out!

I'm always in the process of making a mix cd. I don't keep very many for myself, though. People seem to dig 'em. I don't know what could be cheesy about them.

i never have the patience to finish them. i always get 5-10 tracks and then run out. usually because i become too lazy to find the tracks that i want. one of these days i will really make a good one though...
as far as downloading tunes, i think every place probably makes you install some piece of software...

Okay, its for my boyfriend. I feel like a tool. I don't know why I feel like a tool doing this for him. I guess because music is so important to me and the songs I picked are so close to my heart and are all ones I associate with him and once I give it to him...
I wish I had the skill/equipment to make crossfades and cover art. I got nothing. Because of that I am considering foregoing this idea. I don't want to give him something that looks half assed but I only have til Monday.

Well I've got a couple of days to think about it. I'll see if I can get my hands on 1 or more of the remaining songs and go from there.

Why don't you try the iTunes store for the songs. If you need Cover-Help.
I could help you if you sent me a picture you want to use as a Cover and
the songtitles and the "kinky" name of the CD ;) It won't take too long, I
guess. You E-Mail me if you need help...

Good call on the itunes store. I am going to try that.
Thanks for the offer on the cover art but I think I'll just do it myself.

You worry too much...if he's your boyfriend and you actually love him enough to make something for him I promise you he'll love it. As far as cover art and all that I wouldn't even sweat it. This one time my girl made me a CD and gave it to me in a clear case and she had drawn a punch of cute lil pictures on the actual CD with different color sharpies. It was awesome!

God, I am so bad at this, how did I get a boyfriend in the first place? Why is it so hard for me to just say how I feel? I trip over it and it comes out sounding something like, "You're really great, too, baby. (y) "

you know what rules, is having coworkers who are 35 year old metal rocker dudes and have stock piles of rad high bias type II metal particle blank tapes lying around that they'll let you dip into cause they have so many and then you can take em home and make pure magic mix tapes with homemade interludes ala cassetteboy and then you give them to friends but the really good ones you keep for yourself and play during your bus rides to work on your 250 dollar tape walkman yo yo (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/HEIRESS/shat/Picture93.jpg)
mixtapes are the better gift cause you hadda sit your ass in front of the stereo while makin the muthafukka on top of spending hours picking out all the songs and placing them correctly

real speak.
or actually mixing tunes [as opposed to, i dunno, compiling?] and recording to cd, that's good too.

They're better than writing a cheesy poem ;)
Anyhoo, I like giving out mix CDs. Its a great way to spread real music around in a cesspool of brainwashed, new-music-loving zombies. I'm like the truth-bringing light that uplifts the quality-famished masses.

See that's the beauty of it, the songs and effort you put in speak for themselves and you don't have to say a thing if you don't want to. On the other hand the one time I made a CD for a girl I included like a litttle track listing that included the title and why I chose that song/what specifically about it reminded me of her.
