"To satisfy all the world’s sanitation and food requirements would cost only $13 billion, hardly as much as the people of the United States and the European Union spend each year on perfume."

— Ignacio Ramonet, The Politics of Hunger, Le Monde Diplomatique, November 1998 -

insane!

Yes, but that would break capitalism, and thus cause the end of the world.

$13B is about what the music industry takes in per year, too.

13 billion could be found a plethora of places with little to no impact on the welfare of humanity.

Now, go out and take it from those who are SO eagerly hoarding it.

Go ahead........

Shoo.....

I don't understand the connection. People are lacking sanitiation because I like to pick myself up a little bottle of something that smells nice in the Duty-Free at Heathrow? That doesn't make any sense.

The point is to make all of us feel guilty and ashamed enough of ourselves to give power and control to those who THINK they have the "right" ideas about how we should spend our labor and time to ensure "equality" for all of humanity.

Get with the program, Ms. Peachy! ;)

People are lacking food!

The connection with perfume,or it could have been toilet paper(people wipes too much their ass) is that while we smell good while shitting, people eat dog shit!
And i am not better,i use "eau de toilette "rasberry flavor!

And Sam,i am not preaching that i HAVE the right idea,i am just witnessing the mess and saying my opinion!

Get with the program, Ms. Peachy! ;)Guilt and shame are within you. No one should be able to make you feel that way. I pointed out that music is abou the same size industry, to show that we all CAN make some sacrifices to help someone else have a better life.

One very real problem with 'charity' is the administrative costs and governments that muck up distribution. Without real efforts to get the 'goods' to those most in need, there is a lot of waste and corruption.

I am still not clear on exactly how me not having nice smellies will directly alleviate world hunger.

Quite true, except for the guilt and shame part being within me.

I contribute far more than my fair share to ensure those who are poor are well fed, clothed, and have a decent place to live.

If you think that those who believe they have "better" ideas on how the vast majority of humanity should spend their labor and capital DON'T employ the tactics of guilt and shame, then you are far removed from reality.

Don't be ridigulous, it's nothing of the sort. If suddenly eveyone tomorrow stopped buying perfume, would that directly translate into a mass alleviation of famine? Of course not - that is what I mean by a lack of connection. Even if everyone in the world gave to money they spent on perfume to food charities, it would not be particularly relevant - famine and food shortage is a political problem, and only by default of bad political policy an economic one.

No i doubt it!But individual illumination can affect the collectivity mind!
My point was more that inegality is ironic!

And giving money to food charity i really have doubts about this,,,a lot of this money go in fuckers pocket !

Inegality will always be there and its a fact that on earth there is too much people, some have to died! That why there is chaos too,we become overpopulate!
But still,me knowing that people, baby, kids died of hunger,,,,Just kinda piss me off because it would not be so hard to make them eat or help them to be self sufficient. There is a lot of organisations that give help(they dig a water well and help people to cultivate)but it'snot enough! It could be more!

Oh, this is a hoot : the world is ending due to overpopulation!

Anyhow, FTG, NO ONE is stopping you from sacrificing everything you have and everything you can do to make world hunger end. Go and make a difference by farming in Africa or some other part of the world that is "starving."

"Creating awareness" on a BBMB is not going to have one single iota of influence or change anything.

GO and make a difference and get off here with your incessant, incoherent ramblings!

Go!
