...You know that part of the record:

You're a pussy cat
and you're where it's at
The one that's in on every play
(something) Big Al...

....Speak easy, drink easy, please-y....

Hold your groove together
With Rotosound strings --

BOWM....
(drums crashing, etc.)

..."I Can See For Miles" starts?

You know that part? You know what I mean?

....I get chills and a little knot of suspense in my stomach when that first part comes on. Because "I Can See For Miles" is about to start. Suspense in anticipation of sheer pleasure, I tells ya.

A+

I thought this was gonna be about their upcoming album and tour.

Pfft. That was years ago.

I did just read a good quote from Daltry, though: "We're at the peak of our decline." :)

Well, the tour is this summer.

Or did you mean that they sold out years ago?

Umm... there was an album back in the '60s called "The Who Sell Out" and that's what a-z is discussing...

Oh, Lord.

...1983 or so?

You could argue that it's the worst performing monkey act in rock and roll.

when you really think about it, the who was a pretty god damn hit and miss band. You could take all their really good songs and fit them on maybe 2 cds.

but oh man, when they hit...do they ever hit! god damn son.

I'd say that at least The Who Sell Out, Live at Leeds, and Who's Next are pretty essential as entire albums. I think Tommy is waaaayyy thin but it has its moments; Quadrophenia's kind of a splendid mess.

What about "My Generation"? That's a fantastic album. Don't leave that one out...

Anyone heard the Who cover CD that's with MOJO this month?
It has some pretty cool stuff on. I was surprised to hear about Petra Haden, who covered the entire 'sold out' album...acapella! I heard "Armenia city in the sky" and she's done a really great job.

I'm actually not that crazy about it. I'd take A Quick One over My Generation.

Yeah but what about 'the ox'? The crazyness in that song makes up for all the rest.

Yeah; that's a highlight.

The Who... the Stones... the Beatles.... I'm just not that nuts about their "Meet the Band" rekkids.

I can see for miles was my introduction to the Who. I remember the summer I heard it the first time on the radio, I can remember the view from our upstairs room and the summery smell and the moment I taped it. I was about 14-15 at the time.
There's quite a few songs that bring me memories of different smells. Like Echo and the Bunnymen's first album: Ryvita crisp bread, Adam and the Ants; Dog Eat Dog and the single after that: gas oven, Velvet Underground; banana album: freshly brewed tea (these three also bring memories of a certain appartment were all those scents were gathered).

I love the Who (yeahwho, thinkaboutit), just last night for the first time I watched the 1968 film (not released till 1996) The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. Mick Jagger was not satisfied with the results of the Stones performance. In particular, the powerful performance by The Who was felt by some to have stole the show and contributed, at least in part, to the withholding of the release (This performance of "A Quick One While He's Away" can be seen on The Kids are Alright). This is part of the reason for not releasing it.

Pete said in the DVD extra section that the Who were struggling at the time commercially but knew their live shows kicked ass. He also mentions what a huge fan he is of Mick and really, Jagger is amazing on this film.

The Who rip through "A Quick One While He's Away" The six 'Quick One' songs are 'Her Man's Gone,' 'Crying Town,' 'We Have A Remedy,' 'Ivor The Engine Driver,' 'Soon Be Home' and 'You Are Forgiven.'

The live set is all kinetic and mindblowing, unlike any band I've seen, ever. They fucking kick ass. Keith Moon is at the edge of "Auto Destruct" throughout the whole set! (y) :D
