I have a friend that really likes the Strokes and he keeps telling me how good they are and shit, but I heared them and I can't see what's so goddam great about them, sorta mediocore rock band, nothing too sharp.
So in contrast I told him that Rage Against the Machine is one band that knows how to kick out the jams bitch!
So we started arguing and we got to a dispute about which band do people who know some music (like you beastie fans) like better.

So please help me prove a point to my uneducated friend that Rage kicks Stroke ass.

I'm not familiar with the Strokes' repertoire, but having to convince someone that Rage kicks ass means that they just don't get it.

I'm a big fan of both bands. The only thing that ever bugs me about either one is that they both lack much versatility. Rage songs sound like rage songs, and Strokes songs sound like strokes songs - you can tell immediately with both.

Rage had a sweet sound, but I always got so bored with their political tirade. They made some good points, and stood up for what they believed, but like U2 it just got old. Made me want to ask them "So the f--_ what? What else do you have to say?"

The 2 bands aren't really comparable, different genres. It's like saying "who's better, DMX or Fleetwood Mac?"

Are you saying that if you like RATM then you might like The Strokes?

Because I need some new gritty, hard music. Badly. But I don't want to waste money on something that I might not like.

Someone, a few months ago, referred me to System of a Down and I didn't like that so much.

If The Strokes are comparable to RATM, then someone tell me which CD to try and tell me quickly because I want it tonight.

It's possible to like BOTH The Strokes and RATM, but you won't like them for the same reasons. The two bands are really nothing alike.

For The Strokes, think of current indie rock with a strong fetish for '60s and '70s NYC underground (i.e. Velvet Underground, Television, etc.). I recommend it, but if you're expecting Julian Casablancas to pull a Zach de la Rocha, then you're out of luck.

Again people, I'm not making any sort of comparsion between the two bands so you can quit being the geniuses who discovered that RATM is nothing like The Strokes.

All I'm asking you is which band do you personally like listening to better.

That's actually impossible to answer since they're suitable for two totally different moods. If I'm feeling "militant," I'll put on Rage. If I wanna feel all "indie" or "hipster," I'll throw on The Strokes.

It's too tough to say what is "better"...

Thanks, DS. I borrowed one of their CDs and listened to it over the weekend. I chose Is This It because I remember hearing so much about it a few years ago.

I've heard some of this CD before, but at the time, I didn't know the name of the band.

I'd say that it's...okay. It didn't do any great things for me, but it's not awful.

I don't quite understand the purpose of the poll because it seems a bit apples/oranges, but at least it got me to put some relatively new music into my player (music that's new relative to what I've been listening to, that is).

If you had read the first post you would have known that the purpose of the poll is to show my friend that people enjoy listening to RATM better than The Strokes.

thanks everybody for participating, i got that sucker by the balls now.

exactly, how the fuck can anyone like that fucking annoying 'last night' song over any RATM song?! they sound just like all those other soft rock bands like franz fernindad, killers, white stripes etc. While RATM will always have their own definative sound.

PS, to the guy who started this thread, please punch your friend for me. then stab him too
