View Full Version : what's your driving weakness?

and don't give me that "i am a perfect driver" bullshit
i look at myself as a pretty good driver, but my weakness would have to be parking. when i learned how to parallel park, i learned on an extra large staion wagon, so i was good at it. but that car since left us and i don't drive much while at school.
well, i think my problem is that i am too impatient. and the places around campus when i am coming home from work are all crowded, so taking your time parking gets you a dozen cars pressing up your ass .
also, oddly enough, i am probably worse at pulling into a regular parking lot. for some reason my judgement isnt that good when i have to turn into a spot...
Parallel parking for sure. I'm not terrible at it...but sometimes it takes me a couple of tries to get it right.

reversed parallel parking, like if it's a one-way street and you have to do it on the left side... that's mine.
I don't think I have ever had to do that. It seems like it would be easier to me though since I would be able to gauge the distance better since everything is on my side.

I am a terrible driver. I admit it and I am trying to be better. I follow too closely, drive too fast, weave in and out of traffic. I talk on the phone and fuck with my radio and cds waaay too much.
Ironically, I am a great parallel parker. I can fit my car into the smallest of spots. Must be from years of parking on the street in Seattle.

well, to me it's weird because it's all backwards since we learn to do it the other way... like walking up an escalator when it's not running... your mind just is conditioned to think of it that one way, so it feels weird...
if you're good at backing up a trailer, then maybe you'd do well...

i'm an excellent driver (no accidents ever that were MY fault), no problem with parking, parallel parking, driving in reverse, anything...
but i do drive too fast too often.
i've gotten better in the past couple of years....but not before countless tickets and fines, and 2 suspensions.

Living in a hilly city and having a manual transmission, I fear having to stop at a traffic light, on a hill, with a car close on my ass. ...that I won't have any slip space and that I will, indeed, slip into the car behind me.
I have balanced between the gas and the clutch, which, I know, is a horrible thing to do to a car. I don't do it much.
Now, I just go way the hell out of my way to use a route that doesn't have steep hills with lights at the top.

when i would drive my old stick in San Francisco which is totally hilly, i'd actually slow down as i was coming up on the signals that were red, so that i'd never have to come to an actual stop

A 1994 honda civic.
I'm much more aggressive with hills now--I just have scars from when I didn't do what you suggested, I did slide, and it scared me.
Sometimes I'll think to myself, I need a challenge. I'm going to go up Negley, stop halfway, and then make myself have a smooth start. I usually always do have a good start when I do that. But I do remember the times when I didn't and those thoughts always cross my mind.

I tend to drive a little too fast, but my main driving weakness is changing my car too often. I've been driving 15 years and I'm on my 26th car (none ever crashed, I just change my car a lot).

i've never driven a manual car, and even though i think i could learn fairly easy, i don''t know that i would want too...

I had always driven manuals until I bought the Lexus. Autos are nice, especially in heavy traffic. I now have a VW Golf with a six speed manual, which was surprisingly easy to get used to.

Buh, pretty attentative driver, nothing really get's by me. I've only had a car in my blind spot once that I didn't know was there already. Always paying attention to all my mirrors. Hate talking on the phone if there is traffic, if its rainy or snowy sometimes I even turn my radio off and phone to limit my distraction. Never eaten while driving, speed but usually just 5mph over if there is little traffic and the road is dry, etc.
I do take risks sometimes but they are either calculated or Im all alone on the highway topping my car out, speedometer goes up to 140. Not that I do that. And only when Im driving alone. Dry conditions, good brakes etc.
Ill be the guy trailing behind a pack of 3-5 cars all tailing each other, you'll see me a couple hundred feet back. But if you going to slow you're gonna hear my loud exhaust and see my bumper. "Eat my dust, DUST EATER!"
As far as weakness, a little anger problem, don't ram people off the road or cuss or give em the bird. But I won't let them cut me off , usually during bumper to bumper traffic and the idiot waits till the last second and doesn't turn his blinker on, or is in the parking lane with the sole purpose of cutting someone off. Backah da line bitch!

i bet theres at least a few people in here who don't use their turn signals all the time
it bugs the hell out of me when people change lanes without signaling. thats the worst one of all!
I don't always use my turn signals if there is no one around.

i suck at parallelle parking!
I prefer to drive manual then automatic, more action!
except that when i am in a hill with an inclinaison of 75%,i am kinda nervous,i dont like to be in that position while driving manual!

WATCH OUT!!! Blind spots!! I've almost gotten in 3 accidents because of those damn blind spots!!! I hate to be next to an 18-wheeler, cuz they got huge blind spots...
speeding... definitely
impatience with other slow drivers
unfamiliar interstate routes... oh yeah
being undecisive with traffic lights... should I slow down, go for it, stop?...
bascially the whole driving experience... I lack confindence behind the wheel... I fear crashes, road rage and law suits :(

when you are passing someone, you should be speeding. i hate when cars linger becuase thats when they end up in the blind spot and crashes happen.

I don't drive that often, I've had my drivers licence for 4½ years, but haven't really had a need for a car here. I drove at my job one summer, and these days if I need a car (which is very rarely) I rent it or borrow my friend's. So I haven't had that much practise driving. I've never learned to parallel park properly, sometimes when I've borrowed my friend's car she has to come and park it for me for her street is impossible. Also once at work she had to get the car out after lunch because we'd parked on this hill and a really fancy car had parked right in front of us afterwards and I was too scared I'd crash into it.
Last summer I had my first chance to drive really fast, I had a nice car and empty motorway, and boy did I enjoy it! Pity the petrol use was twice as much as well, made my trip much more expensive...

i love to parallel park between cars that are shittier than the one i'm driving so i can bang into them as much as i need to fit in the space.
when i am pissed off and must drive, i drive fast as hell, and i take turns fast as hell, and i ride people's asses because it makes me feel better.
when i'm city driving, i go through a lot of red lights. there's no cameras so what the hell!

I speed and sometimes I won't see a car that is coming. Like the brain just doesn't register it and I'm like wtf did that car come from?! But only rarely does that happen, mainly my speeding whenever i get a chance :p i don't do the weaving through traffic thing tho
I used to be able to parallel park my little corolla into just about any spot, with only like a foot or so clearance. my new cars a bit bigger so i'd be lying if i bragged about my parallel parking skills now. i can still do it ok, but the little corolla was awesome to park
