just came from Barnes & Noble......theres like 10 books out on 'old school hip hop', 'def jam', 'run dmc', etc....
all pay homage to the beasties.......of course.....
as i post more and more on this website over the years.....its like, whats in those books and my memories from 20 years ago have very little to do with this website.....
i don't know......its like the band i knew and loved doesn't exist anymore........its weird.......maybe if i came in a few years ago i'd feel differently........
despite these feelings.......one things for certain......the beasties are kings.....i wish hiphop wasn't as wack as it is today!!!

A lot of time has passed and I think the Beasties have changed a lot probably. This website represents the newest era completely, not much interraction or activity.
I can only imagine what the website would have been like if they had their early/mid 90's energy, Mike D would have been all over this place like a rash. Think of the Grand Royal mags - a bands website has so much more potential but its not used here.
I don't think hip-hop is that bad these days though, as long as you don't worry about the mainstream shit and find the good stuff.

Whah Whah..... Hip Hop Sucks... Rap Sucks... Thats not true... Jada, Fabolous, Tru Life, Red Man,Rhymefest, Kanye, Eminem..... You just have to listen for it... Funny thing is is, at AIFST screening, Most fans I saw looked they would be just as happy at a Korn Concert.... This might be the reason that TT5B didn't sell like the other CD's (which aren't all rap).... The Beastie Boys made me fall in love with hip hop. So I'm not going to cash out now.

Notice CJ Hood quotes the only two artists the beasties didn't play, that I listed on beastie boys radio. I have as much respect for the DJ's in Harlem and Brooklyn in the late 70's that took break beats and turntablism (yeah that really is a word) to the next level as I do for the artists of today...
When people get to a certain age it's tough for them to accept change so they find themselves saying things like "Back in My Day Sonny, Our hiphop was much better"... An 808 is an 808.... The tools that are available today to aristists composing looping, sequenced music are light years ahead of what was available in the 80's..... I love RUN DMC.. I can listen Grand Master Flash or Sugar Hill Gang..... Going foward, whether its KRS-One, Mc Shan, a Tribe Called Quest, or Big Daddy Kayne.. They have all brougt something to the game....
Yes artists today may be all about the "gangsta creedo" and yeah white kids on long island or any other suburb are likely to immitate to the point where they are mocking themselves, but hip hop is advancing slowly but surely...
Yeah I know, Nothing Sounds Quite Like an 8 0 8, Money Makin, Money Money Makin........

There is still good hip hop out there. Even main stream hip hop.
Pick up something by The Roots, Jurassic 5 or Brother Ali.
You'll like it if you like the way the beasties flow. I mean if the roots are good enough to open for the beasties their good enough for me. Even though the show i went to back in '94 The Roots didn't show up. Did they make any of shows on the Ill Communication tour? Or did they just skip the Milwaukee date?

Yeah what ever happened to people stating their opinion? I was simply statin mine by saying that I like hip hop. And it bugs me that people just say hip hop now days "sucks" because not all of it does, and they don't even give it a chance so they don't know what they're talking about. And you know what I'm talking about, you know that conversation you and jack had was offending to a lot of people. Just expressing my opinion, I respect the fact that you don't like hip hop.

And no, hip hop aint music it is a culture. Now rap, turntablism, drum machine, even instruments (yes, surprisingly rappers do play instruments) ...that's music a part from hip hop which has many elements. And yes, I like that too. I feel a very negative vibe from you, because you're just dissin a whole culture (hip hop), alright then a genre of music (rap). But that's alright if you don't like it, I don't care. This thread is stupid. It just exposes how naive and uneducated most of the people on these boards are. I've been down with the Beastie Boys pretty much since birth, and yeah they are one of the best bands out there. They have all types of shit you can listen to, including punk, funk, metal-rap, bossa nova, and so on, but their hearts belong to hip hop and so does mine. It makes me upset to see so many people who claim to be Beastie Boys fans saying that they don't like hip hop. Why do you like the Beastie Boys then? Is it because they act stupid sometimes? Is it because you like their rock n roll shit? Is it because they are white?
Whatever it is, some of you people sorely need an education in music. If you don't like hip-hop, what genres of music do you like? And please don't say pop, grunge, or emo cuz the Beastie Boys would probably come and kill you themselves. I mean REAL music, like Dylan, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Womack, the Stone Roses. Can you really say you know ANYTHING about music? You people (including hood and Guido) are so quick to condemn gangsta rap, but why? Hip hop is an art, why not make it exciting by talking about cool cars, money and sexy girls? And no I don't mean the 50 Cent style, as far as I'm concerned him and artists like him (G Unit, Fat Joe, Lil John) can eat a fat dick.
Besides that, you have to have respect for people like Wu Tang who have used their music making talent to make something of themselves and avoid a life of crime. These people know their shit, and despite seeming stupid (thanks to the many middle class idiots who try and copy them) they are very intelligent. Nearly every good hip hop album in the last 15 years has been a gangsta one, just face it. Dre, Snoop, 2PAC, Wu Tang, Ice Cube- they are all sick rappers and all write about gangsta shit.
I'm just trying to say, don't discriminate. If music is good, then listen to it. Never say "I don't like hip hop" until you've heard every single hip hop song in the world. Only then can you say it's not for you.
Chikity check yourself before you wreck yourself.
