View Full Version : Most Notable "That Other Guy"

Who do you think is the most (in)significant "that other guy" in the public eye; actor, singer or otherwise?
You know, like George Michael sure didn't need that other guy in Wham! for much, did he? Or Keanu Reeves wasn't really as funny as that other guy in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Or Anthony Michael Hall was definitely funnier than that other guy in Weird Science. Or what's the name of that other guy in Menace II Society? You know, the star of the movie. No, not Larenz Tate, that other guy.
Now see, despite his relative insignificance, John Oates from Hall & Oates was never quite relegated to "that other guy" status. That's because he was smart enough to coerce Darryl Hall into splitting the name of the group with him, and thus successfuly evaded that chasm of relative obscurity that many before and after him weren't as fortunate to circumvent.
Note: I actually do know the names of all the people I've alluded to, but I'm trying to give examples. So don't worry about answering the questions. They're not really questions. It's all smoke and mirrors, just part of the act.

I prefer to think about that one guy and how many of that one guys have now become actors that you actually know the name of. We're talking guys who have played bit parts in a million movies, many times including the role of nerdy technician guy in an action film (I can't think of all the that one guys this applies to, but I know it's a lot.
Some of them -
Jack Black
Paul Giamatti
David Cross (still riding that one guy status a bit)
Jesus, there's more like them, but my brain has kinda farted for the moment.
Will Smith wasn't as funny as that other guy in Bad Boys
i'd say martin laurence was that other guy because will was more beefer, more of a ladie's man and more "funnier".
there was some funny bits in both the Bad Boys movies though.

Yeah, a/k/a, that other guy.

There was also the third guy in the geek trio with Anthony Michael Hall and John Cusak in Sixteen Candles.
He wasn't quite as funny as those 2, though. And Cusak wasn't even really funny in that movie.
But AMH....

And the other guys in shows from the 80s that I watched.
Parker Lewis' best friend in "Parker Lewis Can't Lose"
and
Doogie Howser's best friend in "Doogie Howser, M.D."
They were both these kind of greasy skinny italian kids who liked to chase girls and didn't have much luck at it.
When did that become the sidekick formula?

No dude! You know these people. You know their names. Most people who're fans of The Flintsones, Jay-Z, Lootpack and Xecutioners do.
But what about the guy doing the hook on Jay-Z's I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)? What's his name. It's one of Jay's biggest hits, but seriously, who the hell knows that guy's name? (Not the Pharrell singing part, the guy talking about the "sweet, nasty, gushy stuff")

No, I think it's Oschino or Sparks. I actually have no idea, but Bleek does it during the shows. All I know is it's not Bleek on the album/single version.

and those two broads from the first destinies child
And like any of the Getto Boys that aren't Bushwick Bill/Scarface
edit: :"NOTABLE" in the thread title is a key indicator that in refrence to these examples, I still don't yet "Get it"

how about "that guy" from the Simpons who always runs in and says punchlines in an old tired jewish guy like voice...
"oooo here's yer problem...someone set this doll to evil"
you know THAT guy
Maybe y'all know who the guy is, but he was the bully in "Three O'Clock High" . He later starred in "Two Moon Junction", but I will always think of him as the other guy from "Three O'Clock High".
he was also in Kindergarten Cop. akh ya.

joe pesci was that other guy in that mafia film where his character got buried alive. can't think of the name
casino?
i wouldn't say he got buried alive. he got fucked up with a bat.
i hated that bit. imagine watching your brother getting killed with blunt objects to the head and you can't do shit. (n)
shit was fucked.

Yeah, if I had to die, I don't think I'd choose watching my brother get beaten with a bat, get buried while half alive and then suffer the same fate as him. And weren't they stripped down to their underwear at some point? How embarrassing.
yeah they were nekkid... well... pesci was definately.
but he stabbed someone in the neck repeatedly with a pen (!) - who thinks that up? it's great.
