View Full Version : time for a political rambling: pro-life teenage girls!

how do you feel about teenage girls that are fervently pro-life? i find it somewhat understandable, since they are young they are only keeping their own interests (their religion, based on their parents views and upbringing) in mind but at the same time it pisses me off that their naivety can help fuel campaigns to take away people's freedoms (not that this will ever happen in the US... even if legislation was somehow passed the backlash would be so ridiculous it wouldn't stand for long at all, considering the ramifications such an act would have)
but yeah, it's frustrating to discuss this with most people because they get intensely defensive and take any argument as an attack on their religion, they stay close-minded, and just drive themselves to retardation.

(y) teenage girls.
Anti-abortion teens? At least they're not apathetic. Most of them will grow up.

Why would you bother to discuss it with them?

Why would you bother to discuss anything with narrow minded teenagers?

1. The good thing about teenage girls is that they are too young to vote, and have a chance to grow out of being airheads.
2. "I trust the president, I think we should support him in everything he does" - Britney Spears.

This is rather pertinant to me because recently we had a project for English where we had to give a speech and make a pamplaht about a particular topic and a few girls in my class made abortion their topic.
Not much in the way of reasoned argument, just platitudes such as 'abortion is murder', 'life begins and conception' and of course the egregious pictures of aborted fetuses and the gory details of the procedures.
I tried to add some reason in my little comment card-thing but I didn't have the heart to crush her ideology (She's kind of hot, so hey, what can you do?).
I myself did my speach on why Flying Spaghetti Monsterism should be taught in public school
It was fantastic if I do say so myself.

But the reality is...

No, I meant grow out of being airheads.
But thankfully, they probably won't vote.

Since voting is so low in most countries anyways (except for Afghanistan and Iraq (y) :p ), the opinions of those too young to vote really isn't important.
I think the correct argument was proferred above in that most teenagers are inordinately influenced not only by their parents, but also by their teachers and peers.
If it's "cool" to be anti-abortion, there is almost invariably a backlash by teens against what their parents believe, unless they are truly sheltered, that leads to pro-life being adopted as an anti-anti-abortion, if you will.
Deeply held beliefs are rare among teens : just wait until they get to college and have all new ideas thrown their way.
It would be an interesting experiment to "poll" teens as they enter high school on their core beliefs, poll them again after graduating high school, then once more after college : my best guess is that their opinions and ideas (not to mention their ideologies) would have undergone vast transformations on a macro level.
Opinions?

There's obviously some truth in the widely held belief that kids are dumb, but I think what people seem to be forgetting is that dumb kids often turn out to be dumb adults- what I mean is, I don't think anti-choice teenage girls are all going to grow up to be the next Ayaan Hirsi Alis. They'll probably stay anti-choice.

dont worry by the time the have sex and get to college their opinions will change.
what you really need to worry about are the non-college educated virgins.

You seem to have made a typographical error. The correct spelling is jacking off.
You can thank me later.

One time his Noodly appendage came down and I saw it in the window. I tried to get to the window to look up into the sky, but FSM is so fast. And powerful. And doesn't have to be seen if he doesn't want to be. But ever since then I have known that he exists. And I have a personal relationship with the FSM. I will poke anyone says different right in their throat.
