View Full Version : Does anyone else really hate Nico's voice?

Sorry, but I've never been able to stand her grating, pseudo-posh vocals on The V.V & Nico. I always thought to myself that I'd grow to love it but, sadly, it's never happened. I've started listening to them again and love everything apart from The V.U & Nico, which she ruins.
I'm glad she was only on the one studio album, otherwise I don't think The V.U would have had the same popularity they did/do have.

She's got some solo albums, too. And I think that's proof in the pudding, right there: even people who think her voice is charming hardly ever own her solo stuff, and the quality's not bad, really. She picked good songs.
Yeah; I can get along with her singing okay in the very limited amount that it's used, but I don't think she's very good. She's not even a Marlene Dietrich, for God's sake.
It's not like Lou or Moe or Doug had particularly good voices, either, but their stuff works better.

Lou actually sounds really nice on The V.U & Nico, in my opinion.

I llke her.
I've got Chelsea Girl and it's awesome....
she's great!
.....sometimes not only the voice makes a singer great....
the lyrics are much more important.
I've seen a documentary by andy warhol with Nico...
*(I admit I hate Pearl Jam because I can't stand eddie vedder's voice :o )

For me, when I first heard Nico (I believe it was some songs that are on the "Royal Tenenbaums" soundtrack and then later on the VU album), I was taken aback and unsure what to think. Nevertheless, I was very fascinated.
But I'll have to say it works. It's just something you need to get used to. But then again, I have a soft spot for unconventional singing voices. People who technically can sing aren't necessarily that interesting to me. It's the ones who "can't" sing that truly get to me.
I actually recently picked up "Chelsea Girl." Haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

...I think she was Jackson Browne's girlfriend at the time, and covers a song or two of his.
Maybe it's a different album. She put out... three or four? Died in an auto accident, I think.
