Gherkins are good food. I like 'em chilled and crunchy. I always wonder what the gut is thinking when I send down a gherkin. Probably just happy it isn't another pepperocini.

they are slightly different

A gherkin is not only a pickle of a certain size but also a particular species of cucumber: the West Indian or Burr cucumber (cucumis anguria), which produces a somewhat smaller fruit than the garden cucumber (cucumis sativus). Some pickles are made from the West Indian cucumber, but most pickles, even some called gherkins, are made from the garden cucumber.

i used to eat whole gherkins out of the jar as a kid
that idea makes me sick now

Yeah, like you really need to encourage the pregnant lady to eat whole pickles right out of the jar, I'd have NEVER thought of that on my own :p

I like to drink the brine from all sorts of pickles!!!!
It's not like I drink it in huge amounts, just a mouthfull. I really like the sugary vinegar taste! My cat Chloƫ likes pickled cucumbers as well, Cosmo only likes fresh. They always have to taste everything I eat and sometimes they surprise me totally!

OMG, don't get me started on pickles, they're my all time favorite. I used to be addicted. I love the brine too. I used eat a NY Deli style pickle everyday, the ones you had to cut into fours. I cut down a lot, but I'll have my cravings.
