Tiesto is a fucking moron. A real DJ can't stand at a deck and wave his hands about in the air to 'get the crowd going'. You don't see MMM waving his arms and chilling.
Plus he's from Brabant, which makes him even worse.

I'm just ashamed - he's awful - he even managed to balls up DJ'ing at the olympics when no one was really listening.

He's very overrated.
Good business sense/management though, getting to spin at the olympics... bizarre.

nah, cause whatever MMM doesnt do or do. everyone has to follow.
and cant share their happyness smiling and waving their hands about with the crowd, or else there a fucking moron. you gotta just stand there mixing, and when your done. just leave. that will make people love you more, ofcourse.
if you didnt realise, Tiesto preforms at Raves, and usualy DJ's always wave their hands about with the crowd. MMM doesnt preform at raves so obviously he doesnt get all hyped and comunicate with the crowd.
who cares were he's from? what, you have to come from a cool popular place to be liked? or else its "OMG he must die!"

He's an overhyped entertainer. You know when you have a local band/artist/sport person or team that does well and you get fed up of hearing the name, seeing the images and the smug face? That's what Tiesto is to people living in holland that aren't into him.
Becoming that big is only in part talent, it's mostly knowing the right people in the right place at the right time.

Exactly. Great step forward for dj's everywhere.
Doesn't mean I like the music.

1) Raves suck.
2) Have you ever been to brabant? No? Then shut up.
obviously the one you've gone to sucked. i dont see how a rave can suck, unless your standing in the crowd sober insicure.

Hey, my best friend is from brabant, but I just like making fun of 'em.
Crazy drunks, and you never understand a word they're saying. :p
@Rawr: I don't go to raves, it's just not my kind of music. Not my 'thing'.
I've been to a semi-revey thing once though and the music just bored the poo out of me.

Carl cox is just ace. You get the feelin he could play to any sort of crowd. I have seen him loads of times at different kinds of gigs. Big dance festivals, small gigs, Glastonbury and he kicks ass. With someone like Tiesto if you went to one of his gigs - he would play what he wanted to play and it would all depend if the crowd were in the mood for it as to whether it'd be a good night. Cox is good enough to work out what the mood is and always make it a good night. Thats the difference. I know I'm kinda worshippin here like in that link that Gareth put on but at least Cox was a pioneer and understands the vibe from when it first started.

I find Tiesto to be MAAAAD corny. Paul Van Dyk too. Trance in itself is cornball dance music...essentially corny pop music for Non-Americans. The drum patterns have no syncopation and some of the big name DJ's are just not as good as they are hyped up to be. It's more about the image of who they are than the actual music.
I understand how people love the "breakdowns," and the "uplifting/moody" aspect of the music, but I feel the same way about other house music acts, who are, in my view, better, or at least as good at doing the same thing.
I'll take DJ's who are about DRUMS, can go from dark moodiness, to complete upliftment in dope sets like Danny Tenaglia, John Digweed, DJ Vibe, Saeed, Palash, Deep Dish, Chus & Ceballos, Steve Lawler, Carl Cox, Berhouz, and even cats like Mark Farina and leftfield house acts like Chicken Lips over any of the big name trance DJ's.
Check this post I made in the image forum here of a comic strip which is a somewhat exaggerated, contrived, flawed and more arrogant/elitist way of saying what I am talking about that I got from the Danny Tenaglia forum (dtourism.com). The issue is what effect does this "DJ Worship" culture that seems to exist in the Trance scene have on PVD & Tiesto's popularity, and how much of it is really skill.
