why does it cost so much to ship a DVD??

they don't have any weight to them, so it shouldnt cost all that much to throw it in a slim bubble mailer and be off on its way.



the movie i want is only $6 to buy, but the shipping is $5, and thats about where all of the shipping costs are for each item

ebay doesnt make money on the shipping part. they take a percentage of your total bid price though...


maybe thats why they jack up the shipping. and its not insured...


i mean, i shipped my secret santa gift to canada (thats where the movie is) for about the same price, and i had a heavy game in there...

This is part of what bums me about Ebay of late.

Lots of businesses have jumped on, clogging up things with "deals" like this, where the product price looks okay, but the shipping charge is nuts, clearly to make up for the base price.

A DVD costs about $1.50 to ship within the United States, maybe $2.00 including the envelope and worker's sweat.

i know what you mean about the businesses, but this guy isnt a business really. he isn't flat out store or anything, but he has about a dozen movies for sale, and probably has that many at all times.

but you really can't find a dvd on ebay without shipping being expensive. if it isnt, then its probably used, and could be problemsome

Evaluating expatriate destinations based on enviroment is as important as evaluating a destination based on it's DVD shipping rates.

It does little good to have a good DVD shipping cost in an area where water tables are being depleted. If the quality of life is not environmentally sound then the long range potential of that area is compromised as a place to ship DVDs.

There are a lot of greedy fuckers on Ebay. By charging more for postage they're guaranteed to make money even if the item doesn't make a good price.

its not that bad. its quite short. and its over-dubbed, not sub-titled so you dont have to read anything. i thought it was ok.

A lot of ebayers overcharge on shipping to offset the ebay costs.

The charge is not just for shipping, eBay charges an awful lot to put things up for sale so the sellers take that back in shipping fees. Then for us abroaders even PayPal takes their fee.... so I've given up selling stuff on ebay (unless I know I get it sold, like a used HIM T-shirt I found sold for $20), cause even Swedish Post raised their fees....

I always look at shipping as the total cost. Often, ebayers will charge a flat rate to ship. I figure if it's still a good price -- it's equal or cheaper than the store and I don't have to drive, walk, bus, park, check my bags, wade through 300 crappy albums for the one I want -- it's worth it.

They don't just charge the percentage, but also for putting up the ad (some extra for bold, extra lines, putting the stuff under two monikers (like entertainment memorabilia and mens clothes), 35¢ for each pic, same for frames and all the other stuff people use to get your attention). And if you gotta put the ad up again, it'll cost the same again...
