I saw it last week. It kinda just moved along like any other teen movie for the 1st hour or so, then the gore and whatnot kicks you in the nuts for 20 minutes.
It was pretty much that movie Eurotrip and Saw rolled into one.
Although some of the scenes toward the end were very cringe worthy.
I gave it a (y) , but it wasn't anything spectacular.

they're playing that at small theater by where I transfer buses. It said in big letters "PRESENTING: QUENTIN TARANTINO'S: HOSTEL!"
I didn't know what it was. They're still showing it, but now the sign says "megaplexes are lame".
we saw it a week ago too.
sure makes you want to visit that part of the world, doesn't it? i'm sure the travel industry loves it when hollywood does this to them.

i was pleasently surprised by this. expected it to be a another Saw type shit-fest, but was actually quite tense and gripping. Didnt even need all the blood/gore, the suspense was enough.

I made one the other week. I couldn't decide whether i liked it or not. Looking back it was OK - i thought the storyline was interesting. I then watched Wolf Creek and it kicked Hostels arse. The characters were much more likeable so i actually gave a shit about what happened to them thus making it more thrilling.
Wow i used 'thus' in a sentance.

My guess is the scriptwriteers were shit and they made it up as they went along. "I know, we'll just kill him off! It'll be brilliant!"

I thought this was a great movie.
The whole concept of it was really disturbing. The sadism in it was pretty nasty (in an entertaining way) and these guys getting off on torture sent a shiver up and down my spine.
Best movie of the year - Children of Men. Excellent!

I thought Hostel was OK but much preferred "Severance" last year. (Out on DVD on the 8th seemingly)
