I've heard a lot of good music here, and some that could benefit from some information, so I decided to create this thread to help Beasties fans with audio issues like compression and finding the right sounds.
This article should help the semi-professional expand their synth banks by converting AKAI or other professional synthesizer sample discs into SOUNDFONTS (sf2)

I've had two people ask about ACIDizing your export, so it can be used from FL studio to ACID - I will try to explain now. When you render your mp3 or wav file from FL studio, there are export options in the pop up dialog, one of which is "ACIDize." Basically this sets start and end markers and BPM information in the file you are exporting, making it easily used in ACID. Hopefully this clears this up, but if any more questions arise, please post them here.

Hey phats, I'm tryin to make some mixes using mainly samples lifted from old records with a bit of scratching and all that fun stuff. Any ideas as to how to make my dirty dusty horrid sounds a little bit cleaner and pleasent to the ear?
Also, the crossfader on my mixer crackles like freakin rice crispies, it's kinda old I guess. Unfortunately it makes my scratches absolutely horrible to listen to so I cant do anything complex in my songs. Anything I can do about this or should I just drop some of my hard earned moolah from my shittty day job on some new hardware?
Thanks for the help man, us youngins (or at least this youngin) appreciate guys like you!

You should be able to replace the slide mechanism in your crossfader for not too much cash, and if you're recording on a computer to wav format, you should be able to use a variety of products to clean the scrape noise out of it, i'd try Steinberg's Clean, or simply recompress your sound using fx channels in FL Studio, the new one has "EQUO" which can take some of the high end off of the sample - there are a large variety of ways to proceed. I'm guessing the simplist is the best in this case, and I'd suggest using Clean or something similar to clean it up.

Allan Said:
"I am trying to mesh a track with Beastis Boys' "Root Down" but in the second verse it sounds like Mike D is changing the tempo and the acappella wont "fit" to the music. Has anyone else had problems with this, and how did you solve it?"
I had the same problem with "Super Disco Breakin," and was not sure how to proceed either, does anyone else know what this issue is?
I have a feeling that it may help to cut your bpm in half on your drum loops, getting a more down tempo feel. When in doubt, however, the best way to go, is to get a copy of the original finished song, and listen to what the Boys did to it themselves, maybe there's a dropped beat in there. Let me know.
