Remember that the show IS edited. More than any other "reality" show (more so than the news, more so than newspapers) it is subject to taking comments out of context.

People's outbursts are often totally assaholic, but there could well have been all sorts leading up to it that mitigate it. And subtle things can put a spin on it, like whose voice you put the volume up for when they are talking over each other, etc.
