It's on. The biggest day of violence, drunken behaviour and general direspect for all and sundry. And I get paid a great rate to work it.
I spoke at great lengths with some Noongars (sp?) who refer to it as 'Invasion Day'.
Bummer.

I've got Australian friends here who are trying to convince me to take off on Thursday. "But it's a national holiday."

You should take it off. It's a national holiday.
I am Australian on paper, but myself and the only other kiwi at our pub both got screwed into the double shift, open till close, hospitality steez tomorrow.
It's 2:07am, I'm farkin pissed and I've yet to consider getting sleep.
I'm Australian too. And a Kiwi.
when i worked at the mountain last year, the Aussie population was at leaste 75%+ , so we all partied hard for a good 3 days.

i had it planned, i had a respectable amount of alcohol with me. my friends were drinking "flirtinis" which is basically flavoured vodka (we used absolut mandarin) champagne and pineapple juice. so in between each beer i had one of those. drunk.
started sobering up about 10pm but forgot to eat dinner so was not feeling good at all today.
am good now
i had a chip roll for lunch :D

I didnt drink much during the day on Australia day. I drank way too much the day before cos I went away for a week with friends to anglesea. But then at night I went out and had a few, it was farking hot though and the club i went to makes you wear pants :( (as opposed to shorts, I wouldnt just rock up bottomless)

I walk around bottomless at home. I'd give you a carton if you could provide photographic evidence of rocking up to a club half-clothed.

Last Australia Day, I happened on to two super cheap tickets to BDO and gave one away to a Beasties fan I met on the train on the way there. :(

That's awesome! Why sad? That's the nicest gesture possible on an Australia Day!

No, it was a very good thing. I'm sad because this Australia Day I'm not in lovely Australia.
When I was checking into my Sydney hotel last year, I ran into a Brit who had won tickets to BDO but he and his wife didn't want to go. I just wanted one ticket and I wasn't sure that I even wanted to go so the guy offered them cheap. I was going to sell the extra ticket when I got there, but I was on the train with some young guys and one was wearing a TT5B hat so I started talking to him and he was a big fan and he didn't have a ticket so I gave it to him. He wanted to pay but I told him I wanted the good karma. Plus they seemed pretty broke.
Here's the thing. I had amazing luck at the Sydney show and throughout my trip, and I'm convinced it was my good karma from giving away that ticket.

That's fucking good work Doc. (y)
that's the last time i try and reach out to the Aussie community.
i went to the beach on aussie day, pretty hungover, from there, me and my 3 other mates cruised to get some KFC, in the carpark were ferarris, porsches and all these exotic italian sports cars and there a few bmw's in there.
my mate drives a turbo'd skyline so we figured we follow them; we'd be able to keep up...just!
we do so, have some runs with old men in their carerras, get caned as you would against porsches with automated rear wings. busting out 150km+ on 70 zones and we're still falling behind to these cars. we get 3/4 of the way to Lancelin (a town up north) and decide to turn around. go back to another mate's house for pizza, watch the fireworks on the roof, go home. good day and 0 alcohol involved.
