I am the Walking Dude! Follow Me or Die!
Yea, that was a great book(The Stand)~The 1st 100 pages had me glued to the chair and I'm a slow reader.
I would like to read Rage...That seems to inspire people in all the wrong directions. Have you by any chance read that?

Yes, Rage was the book written under the Bachman name that was a blueprint on how to turn a school into a killing field. Glad you paid attention. I never read it but watched a bio on Stephen King and he said he regretted writting that book bc the Columbine killers had that on their best of lists. That raised my eyebrow: Have you read that? Sounds like a page turner
Yes, i read it years ago and remember thinking it was good. Not crazy good, but good.
Like any Stephen King book (besides the first 3 or 4 dark tower books) it got long-winded at points, but picked up nicely after any of those points.

That's good enough for me. You sold me. So it's a book I can read and not feel compelled to grab the shotgun.
Plus you know "Among the Living" so I know your advise is good (y)

Hmm, haven't read the Stand nor the Cell, but I love apocolyptic stories. And one with zombies? Score! Perhaps I'll pick it up.
Then again, I wouldn't be caught in public reading a Stephen King book, so perhaps I'll just have to slip in some pages while at home.

I'll spell it out for you:
Stephen King; in the realm of famous and talented writers, he falls short. Sure, he sells a lot of books, sure, people like them. But sometimes that doesn't really mean anything.
It's kind of like listening to Britney Spears. She sold a lot of records, a lot of people like her for whatever reason. And maybe you want to take a chance on listening to her music, but there is no way you'd do so in public.

i think his best work of late was getting hit by a car, and appearing at many red sox games

but whats your opinion? why do you think he falls short? i'm looking for some substance. i'm not being a smartass. i would really like to know. to me if i like something then it does not matter if i'm in public or not.
adam_f hahahah good one!

it's just my personal opinion. And I understand "suspending disbelief" but sometimes I just think that his stories are just too silly and off the wall (for me) to really get in to.
And I'm in to really nerdy shit too. And yet, I still cannot get in to the majority of his books.
And me saying that I won't read it in public is just me half-joking/half-being a jack ass.
Goodness. I cannot believe I had to explain this to someone.
I only did to avoid doing any work while working though.
Many years ago I took a picture of myself with my Stephen King books.
