What a fucking weird way to live your life - attempting to ride on the coat tails of someone else's success, but not making anywhere near as much money, so you have to have a regular job too where I'm sure people constantly say "Hey, you know who you look like - ?" and then you give them your card saying that you play corporate events at a cheap rate - "Tell the fellows at the Pencil Innovations Convention that they can get their picture taken with 'Kenny Rogers'"!
Not to mention having to study the mannerisms of said celebrity.
This rant was provided by coming across a celebrity impersonator website -

Some make sense, I mean sure having a Michael Jackson dude could be fun at a party....but there's also -
Kirstie Alley (http://www.lookalike.com/lookalikes/kirstie-alley.htm)
Barney Fife (http://www.lookalike.com/lookalikes/barney-fife.htm)
Mimi from The Drew Carey Show (http://www.lookalike.com/lookalikes/mimi.htm)
And, jesus, if you're gonna be a Paris Hilton impersonator you better at least look like her (http://www.lookalike.com/lookalikes/paris-hilton-2.htm) , because she doesn't do anything fuckin else besides stand around in front of cameras, not much work to impersonate.
Okay...I'm done now.

Chantelle (http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/housemates/housemate_news.jsp?id=41) the "member of the public" who won this year's celebrity big brother has worked as a Paris Hilton lookalike. Yeah...she has the same vacant look in her eyes.
According to the news this morning Chantelle now has her own lookalike. Bizarre.

Michael Jackson has actually hired his look-alike to work for him, fooling the fans that it's him, so he can sneak out through the backdoor...
There used to be one really good Queen Elisabeth look-a-like, she was used a lot on ads and scetches on the telly. The one that's on this ^ site doesn't come near.

I don't think it's so bad. If you look enough like a celeb and someone wants to pay you to come stand araound at a party or whatever, why not?
I remember reading about this bloke who is a David Beckham lookalike here in England; he said it's not like he ever aspired to be a "celebrity lookalike", it's just sort of happened that he looked a lot like Beckham and people started commenting on it and a friend sent his photo to an agent and he started getting bookings. At first he said it was just a bit of a lark, but then he started earning more money from that than from his 'regular' job, plus it was more fun. So what's the harm?

Listen, the guy I read about had some crap job at an insurance company, pushing papers all day every day; now he does over a hundred 'appearances' a year at parties and events and, without even really trying, makes more money than he did as a desk monkey. So it may be 'weird' to some, but to me it sounds like he's one lucky bastard.
And again, what's the harm? The bit you quoted says it's 'weird', but it doesn't say how it's in any way hurtful to anyone. What's the big deal?

Riding on someone elses success is a sad way to live your life. He probably cuts himself after "gigs" because he is not the real Beckham. All the attention he gets at "gigs" is because someone else has talent and has made something of their life.
Wheras he has not.
It seems very sad and pathetic to me, but yes, the only person he is harming is his own mental state.
