Nominations came out this morning. (http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=214032&GT1=7651)

Thoughts?

I'm pretty happy Brokeback did as well as it did. Not so sure about William Hurt or Judi Dench. I mean, she gets nominated practically every year. And Kiera Knightley? I didn't see Pride and Prejudice but was she really that good?

Oh well, at least this means there will be plenty of footage of Jake Gyllenhal and Joaquin Phoenix.

Yes, I thought her performance was was very good in that. Although not as good as Witherspoon's in Walk the Line.

I am pleased to see Matt Dillon's nomination for Crash, I thought he was excellent in that role.

Has anyone seen Brokeback Mountain? Was Michelle Williams good? I guess she must have been, I'm pretty happy that she got nominated. I always felt bad for her because she got kind of lost in the shuffle of Dawson's Creek, the rest of the cast were more famous than she was and then they killed her character at the end.

I usually watch the beginning and the end. Fuck all that stuff in the middle.

Has anyone seen Brokeback Mountain? Was Michelle Williams good? She was excellent. Man, I'm thinking about one scene in particular--and I'm thinking that it was that one scene alone that probably locked her in for the nomination.

She should get the win, but she probably won't.

I think the only nominated movie I saw was Crash, and it was okay. I used to really, really love movies.

heres hoping the broke down pimp beats the gay cowboy

meaning I hope Terence Howard wins best actor but more then likely Heath Leadger or Jonaquin Phoneix will...thats just cool he was nominated though cuz he did a really good job.

Shocking that you would feel that way.^

Anyway, no big surprises here. Nice to see Crash, and particularly Matt Dillon, get some recognition, though. Even though neither will walk away with an Oscar.

Keira Knightley is hot.

I assume Brokeback's winning best picture. Why not just skip the formalities already?

I was glad to see Wm. Hurt get nominated for that. Kinda surprised Cronenberg didn't finally get his best director nomination this time around.

SOOOOOOOO glad that Walk the Line didn't get nominated, but then, I liked it better than Crash, which I couldn't sit through. (This year's Crash, not Cronenberg's awful, awful movie from a few years back.)

Would've really, really liked to have seen Jeff Daniels get nominated for The Squid and the Whale, but I figured it wouldn't happen.

Only liked Joaquin's musical performance; didn't like his Johnny Cash much at all.

I haven't seen Munich yet, so can't comment on that.

I think Ledger gives a slightly better performance than PS Hoffman -- both are great. But I'm betting Hoffman wins. Kind of a "body of work" thing.

MIA: Laura Linney, The Squid and the Whale. What she does with silences -- restrained and not lashing out the way an actress could easily justify with the exact same dialogue -- oh, man. Oh, man.

Heath's from Perth. A girl my missus knows went home with him one night, and he got one of his mates to ask her to fuck off the next morning.

Okay, I saw Brokeback and it was incredibly good. I was shocked at how much a love story between two men managed to draw my heterosexual female self in. It was absolutely, heartbreakingly one of the best movies I've ever seen. I can't remember the last time a movie affected me that much or for that long afterward.

But I haven't seen Hustle and Flow yet.

I adored Terrence Howard in Crash. His face when his wife is basically verbally castrating him is crushing.
